This cloth is definitely thinner and flimsier than it looks in the photos. It looks like it would hold its shape more on its own, so we were doubtful as to how this would work. It actually works well, though, and the dough doesn't stick to it! My mom is the bigger bread baker, and she was pleased with them.
Today I made my famous bread and used the linen bakers couche, it is perfect. The linen bakers couche is a good size, I was able to completely cover the bread dough pan. One very important thing I noticed is that I forgot to put flour on the linen bakers couche so the bread dough wouldn't stick to the cloth and when I checked them after they had risen in size, the bread dough didn't stick to the linen bakers couche, to my surprise. The linen bakers couche is made of excellent cloth, it is a good size and is very good quality. I was able to make my bread, and I also used it to cover my loaves after baking them. Great product, price, quality, I know I need several more to bake more loaves. Super fun experience. AWESOME.
When I bake bread, I usually make enough loaves to last the week and a few extra to give away. The only headache was how they would sitch together when they were proofing. Now, with this nicely floured couche, sticking is now a thing of the past. My baguettes and Cuban breads come out as if they were baked in a commercial oven in a professional bakery. It is wide enough to fit multiple loaves and placed on a piece of plywood. The material is a beautiful natural linen that I washed and line dried before flouring and using it. When I'm done, I just shake out the excess flour and let the dampness dry completely before folding and putting it away until next time.
This couche works fabulous for making several loaves of bread. Can set them aside and not worry about them. Should have bought one of these years ago.
I've been doing a lot of baking lately because I jumped on the sourdough train! The size of this is good for proofing multiple loaves at once, which is great for larger batches of bread or sub rolls. The fabric feels sturdy and natural, and even though it's not the thickest material, it does a good job at keeping the dough from sticking. It gets the job done for me, it’s easy to clean, and easy to store after use.
This is a nice quality couche. Thickish and generously sized, I'm really happy with it. Very nice quality.
I admit to not having anything else to compare this to, as this was my first time making baguettes and therefore, first time using a couche. I figured I just needed something large enough and that wouldn't unravel. It seems about standard size and the weight seemed okay, as it held up and provided the shaping support I needed. I'm not enough of a baker to have identified specifics of what I'd need from a couche yet so maybe this is my starter linen? Either way, worked for me so if you need a basic, this is a good bet.
