Well built and functions well. A great tool for the serious chef
When I bought this device I had in mind what my mom had many many years ago that goes way back to the1950's when I was child old enough to notice what was going on in the kitchen. I have no idea what it was called way back then but is called a China Cap now, a rigid aluminum cone with the very small holes and the cone shaped pestle to match the strainer to smash/juice what ever was inside. People of her generation did a great deal of canning, especially living up north where home gardens had a short growing season so many people had to stock up on home made canned food as there were no grocery stores close by like today.I was after the smallest holes strainer but now I would prefer the China Cap because the pestle isn't very effective against the flexible sides of this device. It is however great for straining large quantities of liquids from a large pot to keep from making a mess all over the sink or counter top.The construction is solid and built in stand and hook on far side are welcome aids in using this strainer.I like it but doubt will use it much. I would not waste money on the pestle, a large spoon works fine with soft sided strainer.I have to give it 5 stars for what it is, a solid kitchen tool. My lack of being able to use it as I envisioned it can't be considered like so many customers do for products they buy in error and then mark a product down.
Strainer mesh is very fine. I use this to get seeds out of berries. Love the size of it. It has held up well for multiple uses on berries, tomatoes, and making gravies and sauces.
I wanted a chinois to make sauces like I see on TV food shows. There is also a China cap product that does about the same thing. The chinois is a strainer and the China cap is perforated metal. The product is well made. My issues are with the system of a chinois and not with this particular product. It's hard to clean a chinois because the particles stick in the mesh. That's a lot of work. I wish I got one with a stand. After I strain food through it and press it through with the wood pestel it is awkward without a stand. I have to be very careful putting it down on something or it falls and makes a mess. After using it several times, I concluded that for my small projects a standard strainer would have worked as well. Maybe if I were doing large batches and cooking for more than just 2 people, the size of this chinois would be justified.
Very good quality
Pretty sturdy. Works great. Been meaning to buy for a while but didn't want to pay that much at the time but finally made the plunge. It saves me a lot of time when I make pho or stocks and so that makes it worth it already.
Large and sturdy. Feels restaurant/industrial and does a great job for its intended purpose!
