Works really well for making jelly.
I used this for the 1st time this weekend processing 25 lbs of raspberries into preserves. It is AMAZING!!! We have a small farm and process fruit not suitable for retail sales into preserves. I had been processing raspberries in the past caveman style with a strainer and tablespoon, which about killed my arms after hours of crushing, never mind trying to balance the bowl and strainer during the process. By comparison, this sits soundly on your work surface, and will support a bowl up to 7" in diameter (no bigger). A smaller bowl is okay because the juice will stick to the side of the unit and drip from the very bottom. So while it may sound counter intuitive, even a 3-4" bowl will be fine. The wooden pestle is perfectly matched to the unit so you can effortlessly crush whatever you're processing with a simple rotary motion. I thought this unit might present problems based on some of the other reviews, but it is sturdy and easy to use. The only possible negative is that the wooden pestle picked up some of the raspberry juice at the tip where the coating either wore off or wasn't present to begin with, so it stained red, but that was it for my complaint list. Anecdotally, to keep the seed count down in the preserves, I crushed half the raspberries for juice and ended up with almost 5 pounds of seeds (out of 12.5 pounds of fruit). Wow! If you're going to process raspberries, you definitely want to have this on your side. Looking forward to trying this for grape jelly processing.
Good product so far. Would like to see smaller holes and a better stand
Works great , but a little small
Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store. I used this to make concord grape jelly and it could not have been easier. Three pounds of boiling grape mush fit easily into the cone, simply move the wooden agitator stick every now and then and juice was quickly extracted. So much better than the messy cheese cloth method. I used the stand with a large measuring cup under the cone, however you could also hook the cone to a deep pot and let it drip right into it. Very versatile tool.
Used this for the first time to make blackberry syrup. The base could definitely be more sturdy but I was able to get the job done. My syrup turned out very good and I’m happy.
The funnel works fine, but the legs don’t fit over bowls, making it difficult to hold on to, the legs need to go out more, and it would be a much better product , I ended up buying a vintage one, I do not recommend unless your planning on using small bowls to strain into.
