Love this pan!

I, too, thought it seemed thin and flimsy when I first got the pan, but after using it a few times I absolutely love it. I do use it for baking cakes and storing them in the pan using the lid. Cakes bake up perfectly in the pan. The cake plus frosting stay moist and don't dry out when keeping the lid on during storage. It's easy to get the lid on and off once you figure out how to do it. The lid has one end that is used to open it and the other end has to hook onto one end of the pan. It doesn't just pry off any which way. I don't bake cakes often, but they keep for days perfectly in this pan with the lid! I suppose this pan would dent if I threw it around and dropped metal tools on it, but that hasn't happened and it has not been dented, so far. I guess it has scratches on it, but metal pans do scratch over time. But the scratches are minor and cosmetic only and don't impair the function of the pan. I haven't washed it in the dishwasher; I wash it by hand, which is how I wash all my baking pans and trays. It probably also depends on what kind of dishwasher detergent is used, as some detergents are more corrosive to metal than others. I avoid products with citric acid as I have vintage silverware and citric acid is hard on silverware. I have not used it to bake a casserole in and I imagine that some foods might become stuck on, but that is the nature of the metal without some kind of non-stick coating. I don't want non-stick coating, so I don't bake something that is going to get all blackened and baked on. If that happened, I would soak it and use something like BarKeepers Friend. Over time, aluminum can lose its shine due to use but that is normal wear and tear. We really love this pan!

Awesome pan!

This has been my most favorite baking pan ever! I've been baking for 25 years and have used a lot of different equipment. I was concerned at first that this pan being bare aluminum would cause major sticking, but it's not even an issue if you use baking spray or grease and flour. It's lightweight, which as you get older, is definitely a plus! But it's also very sturdy to carry places and you can put stuff on top if it. It's very deep, so you don't have to worry about anything rising over the edge. It bakes very evenly. I do find it helpful to place it on a big baking tray because the bottom is thin. The snap on lid makes it so convenient for taking to events, pot lucks, etc. I only use this to bake sweet dishes, desserts and cakes.I can't recommend this pan highly enough! If you bake and take things a lot, this is a game changer!

Love Nordic Ware baking pans and the pan lives up to their standards, the lid, not so much.

My cabinets are full of Nordic Ware bakeware and I ordered this pan because I needed another 9x13 pan. The lid looked like an interesting bonus. The lid however is difficult to take off and put back on. I thought maybe it was just me since I have arthritis in my hands so handed the pan to two other people and both struggled to get the lid off. It is also somewhat sharp around the edges. Not "cut your finger" sharp but sharp enough to be uncomfortable when it presses into your flesh. I probably won't use the lid much! This is a lightweight pan, not to be confused with their professional grade series. It will be good to take to potluck dinners but won't last as long as their heavier pans will. For the price I paid though I feel I got my money's worth. I need another 9x13 pan but probably won't buy this specific one again because of the lid.

The lid is essential.

I love that this dish comes with a lid that stays on and will last. I’ve been using these to make freezer meals. Once frozen I’ll pop the whole container in a 2 gallon ziplock to try to prevent any freezer burn. From frozen, minus baggie, I put it in the oven with the lid on. Any leftovers I put in the fridge using the lid as well. It saves me from having to use a lot of aluminum foil! Plus, the dish travels so well.To clean, I soak the dish if necessary and use a plastic scraper afterwards. They clean up great! I have friends who have had these dishes for decades.Update 1/14/21: I continue to love this baking dish and have bought more. I have at least 4 now. I had 2 Correlle 9x13 baking dishes for almost 20 years. I gave them away. These are much lighter and so they are easier to grab quickly. They also nest well and stack easily. Plus, the lid is a one piece lid so there aren’t any parts to fiddle with like with my old Correlle lid that was plastic and had 3 parts to it. The edges of this aluminum lid can be considered sharp but I’ve never cut my hand on them. I’ll rub against it to remind me to be kind of careful but I’m certainly not concerned with hurting myself. This review is for the Nordic Ware 9x13 baking pan with a pop-on lid. It does not have a slide-on lid. I thought I’d prefer the slide on lid as it doesn’t have a tab sticking out on one side so it would be little space saving in the freezer. But I like this lid better because when I’m using it for food storage, not necessarily for baking, I can pile more food in there, like pancakes or cookies.

Nordic 9 x 13 pan with the lid

The price was good for a Nordic product. It worked great for a couple of months. It did get put in the dishwasher and it turned it from silver to a grayish black. My advice would be not to ever put this in the dishwasher. After that food would stick and it was very difficult to get clean. I ended up throwing it away.
