Great & convenient size for one or two diners !!
I haven't cooked in this yet, but so far I'm very pleased. It was securely packed within a big box with another larger item and was not chipped or broken upon receipt (as other have complained.) It is the right size because I wanted to be able to use it for making two servings. It will fit easily into my microwave, on a rack in a big pot on the stove for poaching, and primarily on a rack in a 5 quart West Bend slow cooker (metal with straight sides). The lid can be inverted to cook two separate items at one time (one dish on top of the other), and the handles on the sides of the top can be lined up with the handles of the bottom dish, or not, as needed. Because it has a lid cooled foods cooked in it can be put directly into the refrigerator or freezer and because there isn't a knob on the lid, other items can be stacked on top as needed. I live full time in a tiny home and need tiny items that are easy to use and store. I am (so far) very pleased with this purchase.
Bought these for my lady, exactly what she wanted and having the lids too a nice extra she didn’t have with her old glass pans! So far nothing to complain about! If they last as long as the old glass pans did they’ll be going to another generation of family members eventually!
this glass container cracked after a couple months of use. It cracked in the microwave while cooking. Seems defective if it's suppose to be a microwavable container. Had to throw away
Great size good storage
I'd gotten another set of round casseroles of varying sizes to see which size I needed to make it possible for my non-cooking partner to microwave meals out of my home-canned foods. I canned a bunch of pinto beans and a bunch of chili without beans and was trying to wean him off Hormel chili, which has gotten not only very expensive but also far less healthy for him. But he kept complaining that (a) he had to mix two jars together and (b) if he mixes them in one microwaveable bowl, it won't fit in the bowl. One day I will can up a bunch of chili with beans, but not until we use up some of this other stuff I've already done. What I love about these square casserole dishes (the 1L ones; I got two) is that they each hold two pint jars of whatever, and we can put two of them side by side on the microwave turntable if needed...which cooks more evenly than stacking them...but we can do that, too, if we need to. It gives me a lot of flexibility for how I can prepare meals in the microwave (or using the convection feature, as I'm personally trying to get away from microwaving stuff, although he never will). They are deeper than the round casserole dish I have that holds a quart, and I love that the lids can be reversed for refrigerator stacking or to use as a separate dish. Square is definitely better than round. I'm going to get at least a few more of these.
I wanted to stop microwaving frozen veggies and veggie meals in the original plastic bags. I used to do that with Birds Eye and Green Giant products. As I have ready a lot about the risk of plastics in food and possible health risks, glass felt like a good alternate. I now microwave veggies and protein blends in this casserole. This casserole functions fine as intended. Please note that this is heavy borosilicate glass. The handle on the lid broke when it bumped on my granite counter. I still use it though. It is just too bad that I cannot find a good microwaveable casserole with lid from Corningware or Corelle.
