works, but not as cool as it sounds
I have been using a pot to fry food in, but have wanted something easier to use that will help me keep my oil in a safe place when I'm not using it. This oil filter pot with basket seemed like what I was looking for, especially with all it came with.I first used it to make homemade french fries. since I have made them before, I know they need to be soaked in water and dried really well before going into the oil. I put them in a salad spinner to get rid of the excess water, then used paper towels to dry them more.Once the oil was hot I tried using one of the little silicone hand grips to pull out the frier basket, but I couldn't get a good grip on it. Luckily, it also came with stainless steel "tweezers" aka tongs, which made grabbing the handle easy. I first put just a few in to test, and they fried right up. The second batch was not as easy. I wanted to see how many french fries I could put in so I loaded the basket up and put it in the oil. It immediately overflowed and hot burning oil got everywhere. It was really scary, so learn from my mistake and do not put more than a few things in at a time. After cleaning up I continued, because I still had potatoes to fry, but this time I didn't overload the frier.I was really lucky that I didn't get hurt or started a grease fire. Like really lucky.Even though it holds a good amount of oil, the design is tall, so it really can't cook more than a few things at a time, verses when I used a wider pot, I could cook more in less oil.I do like the basket and being able to get everything out of the oil at once. Just make sure there is a plate with paper towels at the ready to go under the basket for when the basket it taken out of the pot. If not, oil will get everywhere. I have not used the fine mesh filter yet, but I got confused when I reread the description "Large Capacity Versatile Oil Filter Vessel Tank features a built-in fine mesh filter that effectively captures dirt and debris." The mesh filter is not built in. It is designed to sit on the top of the pot, which is also weird. I own some fine mesh sieves that are wide with a long handle that would work way better than this super small filter. No matter what is used, the oil will have to be dumped out and then dumped back in.TLDR:The concept of this oil filter pot with basket is good, it is not an oil filter pot. It is a pot that oil can be put in, with a removable basket. The filter is in no way attached to the pot, and is small. While the pot can hold a lot of oil, the opening is small so this is not a large capacity fryer. Too much can make the oil boil out.The "tweezers" aka tongs are flimsy, but work to get the basket out, while the little red pot holders do not work for that.
