Works as advertised to easily make onigiri and musubi at home
There’s nothing much to this product, but it does exactly what it sets out to do, which is help you make nice tight onigiri and musubi at home. My wife uses this with plastic wrap, though; she doesn’t like putting the rice and other ingredients directly in contact with the bamboo. There’s not anything wrong with the bamboo, of course. This is just her personal preference.Anyway, it’s a fine product that is exactly what it purports to be. The price is reasonable, too.✏️ The ad says this is a “5-in-1” mold, but that just means it has five cutouts (three triangles and two rectangles). It’s not meant for making five specific kinds of cuisine or doing five different kinds of tasks. So, that’s a bit of silly marketing fluff. Also, something like this is inherently versatile. In that respect, calling it “5-in-1” sells it a bit short.PROS👍 Well made out of nicely cut bamboo; solid construction👍 Works as advertised👍 Good size for five big onigiri/musubi molds👍 Easy to clean👍 Fairly pricedCONS👎 NoneVERDICT🍙 I would buy this again.

2 in 1, fun to use
I have a musubi mold. I have an onigiri mold. But I’ve never had a musubi + onigiri mold. It’s quite convenient to make both types of rice balls using a single mold. Also, since all my molds were made of plastic, it’s nice to have an organic bamboo mold for food making. Because it’s made from natural material, I made sure to rinse it thoroughly before first use - I could feel a bit of bamboo dust left on the surface. The sanding is done very well too; there are no splinters at all.So far, I’ve only tried making spam musubi with this mold since it’s the most popular in my family. The rectangular shape fits a slice of spam perfectly. Before starting, I placed a silicone mat on my cutting board and used a small spatula to help press down the rice. The spatula was also useful for releasing the musubi. Although the mold is labeled non-stick, rice tends to stick to almost any surface. To keep the musubi in shape - it came out fluffier than the ones I made before - I gently pushed it out with the spatula. When wrapping it with seaweed, I had to be careful, as the rice wasn’t packed too tightly and could fall apart.Overall, I think it’s an interesting idea to combine two molds in one. I haven’t tried the triangular side yet, but I noticed its corners are sharper than the rectangular ones. I’ll probably need to reshape the onigiri to make it rounder afterward.

great for making lunch for kids
I absolutely love this bamboo onigiri mold! It’s beautifully made and produces the most authentic, fluffy Japanese rice balls — just like the ones from traditional onigiri shops in Japan. The texture of the rice comes out light and perfectly shaped, something that’s hard to achieve when forming rice balls by hand. The craftsmanship is outstanding. The bamboo is smooth, elegant, and finely polished, with a precise triangular shape that gives the rice balls a professional look. You can really tell it’s made with care and attention to detail. Compared to plastic molds, this one offers superior non-stick performance — even when soaked in water, the rice releases effortlessly.I also love that it’s made from 100% FSC-certified sustainable bamboo, meaning it’s both eco-friendly and responsibly sourced. It feels great to use a product that combines traditional Japanese design with modern sustainability values. It’s also very easy to use and clean. The rice doesn’t stick, and a quick hand wash afterward is all it takes to keep it looking new. This mold has made making onigiri so much fun — I’ve experimented with fillings like salmon, avocado, corn, and pickled vegetables, and every time the results are delicious and beautiful. It’s also a wonderful gift idea for anyone who enjoys Japanese cuisine or loves cooking. I bought one for myself and another for my parents — we all love it!

Nice quality but just okay.
Loved the idea of having a mold to make several onigiri and Hawaiian Spam musubi. Couldn't wait to try this, but when it came down to it, it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. It seems simple. Just add rice, remove the mold, and wrap with nori (seaweed). But you need a way to pack the rice and it's difficult to do that with because of the sharp corners of the triangle and rectangle. I used a rice paddle and a spoon to try and pack the rice down and it's impossible to get the corners. I needed to use my fingers to try and pack the rice down in the corners. It would be nice to have a tool of some sort or another bamboo piece with the same shapes to press down the rice. It took more effort for this type of mold vs other plastic ones I've tried that come in 2 pieces; the mold itself and a separate piece to press the rice.Great idea and very nice quality, but it's lacking in functionality.
