Not as good as a whetstone, but delivers the best no-skill results for cheap.
I am a "knife nerd". I use whetstones up to 15,000 grit, and diamond honing compound on a strop to get my knives sharpened beyond shaving sharp. This rolling sharpener isn't nearly as good as a $25 whetstone set and $20 strop with compound. *IF* you have the skill to use those tools. That IF does a LOT of lifting. This is THE cheapest way to get good sharpening results, with low skill requirements. To use this:1. Snap the blade onto the magnetic angle block. I recommend 20 degree side for all kitchen knives, for a more durable edge.2. Roll the course side of the sharpener back and forth with gentle pressure on the bladd until the blade forms a "burr" (look up what that is) on the other side, then swap sides and do it again.4. Still with the course grit, do both sides very gently, alternating every couple strokes, to minimize the burr.5. Switch to the fine side, and repeat the process. The result should be about as sharp as any factory knife edge, and you don't really need any skill. You might need to adjust the blade position to get the tip of the blade separately. I set a pen under the tip to hold it up. No big deal.If you want a better final result, buy a cheap leather strop with diamond compound, for about $20, to finish your knives after the main sharpening. You can do just about any size knife blade, with some tricks. I used it successfully on little paring knives by setting pens under the knife. I did a cleaver by putting a cutting board under the roller, to raise it up.Knives with a ricasso but no plunge line suck to sharpen in general, and it's hard to sharpen near the handle. Not the sharpener's fault. There are drawbacks to this type of sharpener, but it's far superior to the other no-skill options out there. (For the love of god, stay away from those pull-through scissor things!).The course grit came off the disc pretty fast, so I question the long-term durability of this sharpener. I really wish it was designed to use replacable sharpening discs on the end. That said, after the first hundred strokes or so, it seems to be "the same" and not wearing out as much.Overall, this is a decent sharpener. You won't go wrong buying it.

Worth every penny
There's alot of different sharpeners available on the market. What makes this stand out is how compact it is, how easy it is to use, and how effective it is overall compared to others on the market. Is this better than traditional sharpening with a whetstone? Absolutely not, but you also need the skill and practice to sharpen effectively as well. Other sharpeners have large finnicky mounts, require adjustments for correct angles or might even need phone apps. This is alot more casual and easy- 20 degrees for normal knives and 15 degrees for special thin knives like damascus blades. The roller has a coarse side and a softer side. Coarse for sharpening, softer side for honing. No need for heavy pressure, just roll the alongside the blade ensuring the whole edge makes contact with the coarse side. If you don't have a leather strop, couple rounds on the honing side to even out the blade edge and give it a good wipe down. Done. Great for everyday and general use.
