Bread made easy! Super nice and very durable. Easy to clean. Extremely heavy but definitely worth it. The included Gloves make it easy to take out of the hot oven. Coating is nice.
This is a nice iron pot but you have to season the iron inside. The interior is not enameled as I had hoped. It does bake a nice loaf of bread though. 10/22 update: the seller did offer to allow me to return this item and was very gracious. I decided to keep this item because the iron was easy to season by following their instructions and it does bake a wonderful loaf of bread. I love the size of the loaf as well. To be fair, nowhere did it say the interior was enameled. I must have read what I wanted to read. Ever optimistic!
My only criticism. It works great but it is a little awkward when you need to take the lid off. It would be easier if the lid had a handle on the top as if you try to take the lid off when it is in the oven, you need to grab both ends and I found it a little awkward to do. I think it has this design is because the lid is very heavy and one handle would be hard to lift it off because of the weight, so I think it will be something I will just need to get used to. It came with two silicone gloves which I think are great and I think that was good thinking on part of the manufacturer as when lifting off the lid in the oven can result in severe burns if you accidentally hit your hand on the inside of the oven. It is a great size to make a good sized loaf of bread and it came packed nicely, came fast, and I made a great loaf of sourdough rye bread and I am happy with my purchase.
So I did by another. I have four now. I use the white enamel finish for sweet breads that may leak as it’s easier to clean. I use the Matte finish regularly so it made sense to have two. Still love these!!This is my third Coworm Dutch Oven. This one has a black lining. It is a Matte finish. I like the white enamel inside but I am now in love with this version. These were a game changer for my sourdough bread. The loaves are a perfect size. I will probably get one more at some point. You won’t regret it if you buy one.
For the price, this is a good, covered, *cast iron*, but NOT *enameled*, bread pan. It will bake very nice bread. But, unlike the advertising copy, it does not appear to be "enameled," as in a vitrified, glass-like coating made of silica and other mineral oxides bonded over the metal surface. Instead, the outside (but not the inside) appears to have what would more accurately be called high-temperature enamel *paint*, which is a an organic material and often toxic at high temperatures when in contact with food. That is quite likely why (and a good reason too!) there is no "enamel" coating on the inside of this pan or the lid. It's just the raw iron surface (i.e., just like with a cast iron pan--perfectly safe to cook with). Again, the advertising copy indicates that the *inside* of this pan is enameled—this is not true at all. Note that even the manufacturer of this pan recommends that you *season* (their word) the inside of the pan, just like with a cast iron pan (i.e., apply oil and heat to create a non-stick surface). This seems like a tacit admission as to the true nature of the interior of the pan. One does not "season" enameled cookware. (This seasoning recommendation is both on the Amazon page describing the product and in the paper booklet included with it.)But, to be clear, the bread pan is still useful and, again, makes good bread. I will continue to use it. It should, however, be sold as a *cast iron*, and not enameled, pan. I'm not sure if it is possible to make a truly enabled cast iron bread pan at this price.
I recently started making my own bread and have been eyeing these types of pans unsure if it was worth it, well, it was & is. I love the way my bread turns out. I do cook my bread a little longer with this pan but otherwise it is a favorite for me.
Great Dutch oven loaf pan. Nice crust on the bread. So far the coating is good and durable. Grat pan for the price.
