Easy to use, works well

It seems that apple corers have two dominant designs, one that opens its jaws and one (like this one) with a solid ring that does not open. After studying the reviews for both, I noticed that the corers with jaws that open eventually start jamming and need to be fixed. The problem is that the moving pieces jam, overlap, and form an oval instead a circle. This issue has to be fixed every time you use the corer. This corer is made out of stainless steel solid right; the ring has serrated teeth that are very sharp. The serrated end cuts through the apple like it was butter. The handle is large and comfortable to hold. Cutting through the apple requires little force if you agitate the teeth back and forth.I was interested in coring apples for baked apples rather than apple pies. This means I wanted to remove the apple core but not go all the way through the apple. Unfortunately, that is impossible as there is no mechanism to cut at the bottom without going through the apple. My solution is to remove the entire core and then use the bottom part of the core as a "stopper" by inserting it back into the bottom of the hole. The stopper leaks but provides some way of holding nuts or whatever else you want to stuff the apple with. Before the Oxo corer, I used my grandmother's method of removing the apple core with a spoon, which remotes the pits while leaving a nice clean area for stuffing the apple. But it is much harder to scoop out with a blunt spoon than using an apple corer.Ali Julia reviewReview of OXO Good Grips Apple Corer

Good for the price

Works pretty well. I wish the hole was slightly bigger because there are times where it misses the seeds. Very easy to clean and easy to use.

Perfect and cost friendly

Love using my apple corer! Its perfect, and doesnt cost much. I use it anytime I use an apple in a recipe, because with it cores it is so much easier to use all of the apple, instead of wasting. After use, I throw it in the dishwasher and it always comes out clean.

Removes the core from an apple - and does it well

I've used this corer several times on Granny Smith apples, with almost complete success. The blades are sharp (they come with a piece of safety tape to protect yourself and everyone nearby) and the handle is easy to grip. The blades are slightly serrated (easily seen in the product pictures) and that seems to make a big difference. A little pressure and a slight twist, and they sink right into the fruit.I was initially concerned that I'd have difficulty getting the corer to stay "on-target" but, either a testament to my skill or the design of this tool, that hasn't been an issue. The corer is long enough to pass completely through most apples and the removed section can be easily discarded. The whole thing is made of fairly solid materials and cleaning hasn't been any trouble. My only minor concern is that sometimes the blade ends up slicing through the seeds, or doesn't quite get enough of the core, but unless you're extremely picky that won't be a problem. The rest of the fruit is perfectly edible and enjoyable. This was a good choice and a great replacement for my older "wedger" style cutter, which I never felt safe using because it never cut well and required a lot of force. This new cutter doesn't require much force at all and I feel much safer with it. (As safe as I would with any sharp knife - do not expect it to be safe for children.)
