They don't impact how you hold them, but they do help keep the spatula from sliding into the pan.One question is washing. So, these do not come with any care instructions, nor do they have any markings. I thought about docking a star because of these (a little blurb on the box would be a simple fix). The listing mentions hand washing. Their website implies dish washer. It's your gamble. Most silicon without wood is dishwasher safe (top rack only). Any kitchen ware will last longer hand washed. If these were $80, I'd be saying "hand wash only" -- at $14, I'm using my top rack (and I have the third-tier rack for more fragile items). Again, the company doesn't clearly say, so you need to make your own best judgement.Other than that washing question, I'm happy to have these spatulas in my rack.
