Five plating tools and a convenient storage roll, great for restaurant style plating tricks.
I ordered this Bonigour Plating Tool Culinary Set, 6 Piece Professional Chef Plating Tools Kit, Chef Plating Utensils set of plating tools because I’ve gotten interested in fancy restaurant plating techniques from watching YouTube videos, and wanted to give it a try at home.This six piece set consists of five tools and a caddy or roll for storage. The storage piece has slots for each piece, and some additional room, good if you add equipment later. I recieved the storage roll, a large spoon, a slotted spoon, high quality food tweezers, and two slim pieces (I’m not sure exactly what to call them) I’ve seen used in videos to place and move small, delicate pieces of food and garnishes.The sales page says these are made of 18-8 stainless steel; I didn’t know exactly what that was, so I looked it up. It’s a kind of stainless steel made with 18% chromium and 8% nickle, it is known “for its durability, corrosion resistance, and versatility”, according to a quick Google. The tools are definitely sturdy and nicely made, and I learned my new thing for the day.It’s also worth mentioning that the sales page says they don’t recommended putting these in the dishwasher because they could be damaged. I found they were very easy to clean with a quick wash in the sink.I like the clean, professional looking lines of the kit; I’m still learning about plating, so I have no expertise to bring to my review, other than I found it easy to replicate what I saw when using these tools. I like the case; it’s convenient to store them together, so I’m not rifling through a drawer muttering “where’s the little pointy thing I need that I don’t know the name for?” Perhaps that’s my new thing to learn tomorrow, the names of the slim, pointy things.I’m not a professional chef, just a good home cook who loves learning more about the craft. I think this is a nice, sturdy set of plating tools. It could be a nice gift for anyone interested in learning more about plating. I don’t know if a recent culinary school graduate would already have these, but if not, they could be a fun “graduation” gift. The seller also has a larger set with more tools; once I master these, I may check that one out, too.
