Very useful and easy to use. Price is good too
I am one of those people who prefers to use a good old-fashioned potato masher versus a mixer when making things like mashed potatoes. Of the two styles, I really like the curlicue over the flat one with holes. However, surprisingly, the first one I wound up using was the one with holes. I found both mashers to be a little smaller than previous ones that I've used, but, that actually works out in my smaller kitchen. I would say that they are reasonably well-made out of metal and plastic, with the curlicue one being the better of the two. The metal part of each masher is solidly embedded in the plastic handles. I'm not sure if I am a fan of the wavy areas in the handles – I know they are intended to help a person grip the handle better – as they feel like they might wear on my hand if used for a time consuming cooking project. I do love that they have holes in the top for hanging them on a hook. They do wash OK, though, some friendly advice – rinse them off right away after using them. You'll be glad that you did. Overall, for average home cooking they both feel sturdy enough. I did notice there are some slightly rough edges on the one with holes that were not present on the curlicue one. Anyway, they did do the job I asked of them so I will be keeping them in my small collection of kitchen tools and gadgets....
To distinguish these two pieces, I will refer to the tool with the wavy metal as the “masher” and the tool that is round with holes as a “press”. They are made in China. The masher generally functions well. I think it is better than other currently available mashers I have tried. The metal “waves” on this masher are under 2 inches long, and food sticks too much in the waves. For reference, I have a vintage masher (that I need to replace) that works much better, with “waves” that are 2.25 inches long and metal that is twice as thick. The press is best used as a press, and does not function well as a masher. I use it for pressing hamburgers in a stainless steel pan when cooking; it is an excellent tool for that function. As for the handles on both tools, they seem a little short at first, but in use they are a comfortable length. While I generally try to avoid plastic handles, these handles are comfortable and make the tools easy to use. I have washed these in the dishwasher many times and they are still in excellent condition. Overall, this is a good set that I will continue to enjoy using.
I love this set of stainless steel potato mashers with a plastic grip. The zigzag design is one I grew up with, but I have primarily used the honeycomb shape in my home until I got this set. I mainly use the zigzag masher for potato-based dishes, while I tend to use the honeycomb shape more for mashing fruits for sauces and jams. Both designs are incredibly useful in the kitchen, and now, whenever I use the zigzag masher, it reminds me of my mom. These mashers are sturdy, well-made, and the perfect size for mashing potatoes, fruits, and crumbling meat. I appreciate that they allow me to control the smoothness or lumpiness of the final product. The grip is comfortable to hold, and the stainless steel material is easy to clean. Due to their size and shape, they are also easy to find, whether in a drawer or a utensil holder. This set would make a fantastic gift for a housewarming or for anyone moving into their first apartment.
These are just mediocre quality. The masher part is screwed on so that means whatever you are mashing gets caught and you have to get a small bristled brush to get it cleaned out. The metal is thin and the handle is too short. These would be good for camping but not for my home use.
Heavy duty and the pack of 2 different types are nice for mashing/smashing different fruits and vegetables. Good grip and they do not bend or buckle.
During a weekend family dinner, this potato masher set was used by my wife while preparing mashed potatoes and beans. She liked the weight of the stainless steel and felt it gave better control than lighter tools. The handle was comfortable to grip and did not slip while mashing. It worked well for potatoes and even avocado without bending. Cleaning was simple and it went straight into the dishwasher. While slightly heavier than expected, it felt durable and dependable for regular kitchen use.
