Listen, I used to be that person who Saran-wrapped everything like it was 2003 and I was afraid of freezer burn demons. My husband called my bread-bowls “the plastic-wrapped crime scene.” Then these gorgeous floral-embroidered cotton beauties arrived.Day 1: Put the small one on my starter jar. The yeast literally sighed in relief. I could hear it whispering, “Finally… someone who gets me.” Fermentation game went from “meh” to “Michelin-star bakery called, they want their vibes back.”Day 3: Caught my cat trying to nap on the large one stretched over the proofing basket. He looked up at me like, “This is couture now, Karen. Deal with it.” The floral embroidery was giving “grandma chic but make it fashion” and honestly, I’m here for it.The elastic is so sassy it snaps back like it’s personally offended you tried to cheat on it with cling film. Zero plastic, zero guilt, 100% “I’m a serious baker” aesthetic. My kitchen now looks like Joanna Gaines and a French boulanger had a baby… and that baby is dusty blue. Also survived an accidental picnic bug invasion - ants took one look at the medium cover over the potato salad and just kept walking like, “Nah, we don’t mess with elegance.”Machine-washable, lays flat to dry faster than my motivation on a Monday. I now own four and I’m emotionally attached to each one. The XL is basically the bouncer of the group - nothing gets in or out without permission. If you’re still using plastic wrap in 2026 you’re basically committing crimes against the planet and good taste. These covers are the glow-up your kitchen (and your soul) didn’t know it needed.5 stars. Would propose to them even if they weren’t fabric.
I've been trying to cut back on waste (both paper & plastic) when it comes to my baking habits, so I was looking forward to finally testing these out.Currently, I use "reusable" plastic bowl covers (elasticized) for my sourdough. My first impression was that these are extremely thin, which means super breathable. Counter-top proofing is usually done in a sealed environment, so I have concerns about a skin forming during BF before I have had a chance to shape my dough. I'm trying it out now & have wet the cover I put on my proofing bowl, hoping that makes it a little less airy. The smallest size fits on my starter jars, and the next size up is way too large for my 5oz proofing baskets (for 1/2 loaves) I wish that guy was smaller because as it is, he too large and too small at the same time for anything I could use him on.My proofing bowl shown is wearing the second largest size. The flower stitching is really well done btw.For my needs, only having two usable sizes makes me unwilling to consider a a second set at this price. I'm happy to replace plastic & paper any time I can, but it looks like I'm still going to be relying on my plastic caps for most of my smaller loaves.PS: wetting them worked well when using them for cold proof in fridge overnight. I wouldn't use them for my longer-CP loaves (3-4 days).
Have to admit that I really love this set of bread proofing covers. They are so gorgeous with their pretty light blue and white designs. Delicate and lady like. Very well made and feel so soft to the touch. Have good elastic bands for an easy stretch and hold around the bowl well. Love that they come in different sizes. That way you are ready for any size and shape you might need these for. Though they are meant for bread proofing, they can be used for a variety of other uses. Although, you'll still need to stick with something dry. Good for covering prepared breads, fruits and vegetables to keep those pesky flying insects away, as well as snacks and such for parties, or even pre-proportioned ingredients for more elaborate meals you plan to bake or cook. Though meant for covering foods, you can also use them as bowl liners, if you prefer. These covers are machine washable, but honestly, I prefer to hand wash them. I don't like putting food type of fabrics into my washer with those detergents and such. If you do, I do highly suggest that you allow them to air dry so they don't shrink as they are made of cotton. Probably best to hand wash them and then let them air dry. Made well enough that they should last you for a good long time. All arrive nicely folded and packaged in their own small gift box from the vendor. Great for your own culinary needs, but also make for a very nice gift for others who are into such activities.
