Very heavy knife and holds edge, great knife for cooking
This was a gift for my husband for his birthday. It was a great price, and works fantastic. What caught my attention was the design. It was very sharp and worked right out of the package (after washing of course.) So far no rust and we've been using it for about 6 months. Great gift
This is a wicked meat cleaver. Super sharp. The size is perfect. The quality seems excellent and it’s a great length for cutting things. We’re definitely buy again or give it a gift.
So the videos on these Viking knives show men butchering and slicing meat like pros but the reality is, you don’t use a chopping knife to slice meat. The knife is cool and works great on all things chopping. It’s a nice addition for chopping veggies, chopping potatoes, chopping BBQ ribs, chopping BBQ or Rotisserie Chicken. But don’t try slicing a Prime Rib roast or Tri Tip with this. It just doesn’t work like that. We went and bought the rest of the set that has the slicers. Those work awesome for meat. It’s a cool knife, and it’s built well, forged well, and handles well.
I bought this knife over a year ago and before buying went through a number of reviews on it. In doing so I saw several that complained of the knife rusting after only a few weeks of use.Now I am very familiar with knifes and the steel they are made from. And as this knife is made from a carbon type steel yes it is prone to rust if it is not properly cared for.Me I always wash it off after use and dry it completely. And sometimes give it a very light coat of olive oil. And in doing so I have never had the first hint of rust on it. Plus it has stayed sharp only needing to use a steel bar every once in a while. It can't go in the dishwasher or sit around wet it does require a certain amount of TLC. So if you don't like to have to put in extra care for your knife I suggest you stay away from all carbon steel knifes. But if you like a good sharp knife that holds up well have no fear in purchasing this one.
Well made works great
I still like this knife, but now that I have used it for a while, I have to say that it's better than I gave it credit for. It's a one knife fits all. No need to use 3 or 4 when making a meal. It does everything. It just takes a little getting used to. I sharpened this knife on a stone and it holds an edge very well and slices tomatoes like a razor blade. It chops and dices and also cuts through more dense material, like bone. All of that and it's easy to clean. Simply wash it after use in warm soapy water, dry with a towel and wipe with mineral oil. I do this with all my knives. It keeps them from rusting, and it keeps food from sticking to them.Original Review:I like this knife and it can be used for a lot of things, just none of them well. It’s bulky and heavy for a knife. I think a good chef's knife would be a better investment. I suppose if you need it to cook and chop wood when camping, this is your knife. If you only use it for the kitchen, it’s not so great.
