Quality tool for straining veggies from water when parboiling, donuts and fries from hot oil. One piece with no seams to break. Love it!
I originally purchased this for use in connection with my deep fryer, but have found it to be useful for lifting ground beef or pork out of the pan before draining off the fat. Its wide, relatively flat head make this task easier than using an ordinary slotted spoon. It is, of course, also good for skimming off scum from chicken or beef broth when making stock since it is perforated and not a wire or "spider" skimmer. It is a utensil that I find myself using more frequently than I originally anticipated. The only drawback is price, as is the case with many Rosle products. I have a few and they are certainly well-made, but an expensive stainless steel, perforated skimmer won't do the job better than a more moderately priced one. I think that it is worth paying a higher price for superior construction in something like a garlic press (I have a Rosle and a Kuhn Rikon) where high quality is more critical to the operation of the item, but I can't say the same for a skimmer. I certainly like this, but you may be better off spending the money on an Oxo at a third of the price and allocating the money you save on something more worthwhile like a new piece of Le Creuset or picking this up as the fourth, free item as part of one of Amazon's "Four for Three" promotions.
Love this kitchen "spider". I purchased it after reading how highly it was reviewed on ATK. It is the perfect width for scooping and has a nice long handle to reach into any large pot. Excellent quality and easy to clean.
In general, I am not a huge fan of Rösle. Their products are quite expensive, and that was something that you were more willing to accept when they were actually made in Europe. After they moved manufacturing to Asia, I was less enthused. This product works well, and seems to be very sturdy. I suspect it will outlive me. When you view it as a one0time purchase, the value factor goes up. It holds a reasonable amount, and that is not always the case. Some of these skimmer/strainers have a very shallow bowl and so using them for transferring pasta to a sauce, or blanched vegetables to a strainer or bowl of ice water is a tedious process. This particular design works well, and avoids such issues.Bottom line, I would buy it again, but I don't think I will ever need to replace it. It will outlast me.
I've never owned one of these before so I can't compare it to another competing product. I can, however, say that it seems to be of good sturdy construction with a comfortable weight. It does not show any signs of flimsiness, build quality issues, or corrosion.I just bought this thing to try making pretzels, which I haven't actually done yet. I have, however fallen in love with this Rösle Stainless Steel Skimmer Ladle, Round Handle, 4.7-inch diameter,Silver which I now use for everything else imaginable which may or may not include lifting cabbage leaves out of boiling water, dealing with lasagna noodles, scooping ice cream, and even wearing it as a hat or hugging it like a teddy bear.Good tool. You should buy.
We make home made chicken soup and this strainer simplifies clarifying the stock - functional beautiful and quite large -
Useful and works great. A little pricey for what it is.
