Great Rosle quality. I enjoy using this cheese knife.
Love this slicer! So much fun, and high quality as most Rosle products are. Nice and sharp! We first saw this when we lived in Paris, where they called it a truffle slicer. We used to bring it home as a gift for friends who were serious cooks and seemed to have everything. Now it is available in the US! Yes, a little pricey, very very special.Perfect for mushrooms, garlic, radishes, shallots and more…
We bought one similar to this in Denmark almost 20 years ago. Finally broke after 10-15 years. Two sides make it easy - I mean easy to slice cheese thin on one side, thicker on the other. We used the 1st one while riding on a train south to Germany. I haven't really torn this one apart yet, but looks like you can even change the wire once it breaks - assuming you find same grade stainless wite. I like this better than my $60 cheese knife from Cutco.
No need for a picture because the dimensions are already listed. 2.64" width. This means that whatever food you're using it on has to be less than 2 inches wide to use effectively, which means you'll have to halve foods like large potatoes and onions (and probably take the core out). For the price, I would have liked something with at least 4 inches wide, half the length of my chef knife, to really have the utility I'd expect. NOW FOR THE PROS: This fits amazingly into knife rolls; the guard doesn't, but just use a cut glove. It is also very easy to clean. The all-metal material and fine-tuning screw for the guage are all great. I'm a pantry cook and this thing does what I need it to do, but for bigger jobs I'm still going to have to break that big ol restaurant-supply mandoline out of the box and pray it doesnt break any more than it already has.
Easy to use and cuts perfect slices.
This is awkward to use and oddly designed. You are unable to remove the cheesefork feature, so I recommend keeping the plastic shielding on it 24/7 -- unless you enjoy getting gouged in the wrist every time you root around in your utensil drawer for something. The wires come loose quickly and I am constantly having to tighten the again. The handle is sturdy, but the rod style makes the end part crumble off. The "Y" shaped cheese slicers are much better at getting a clean slice all the way through. I will not buy another Rosle item, this is the third one in a row that has been disappointing -- I assume they sold the company and everything is just drop-shipped from china now. I was happy to pay extra for the craftsmanship of their past, that is no longer true.
Really thought I was going to love my new German made kitchen gadget.... it turns out to be made in China! Shame on Rosle for putting their name on something of lesser quality & yet still charging a premium price. Oh, by the way ordered the replacement wires & those were still made in Germany! If I wanted to go the Chinese route I could have just gone to Wal -Mart. Please correct the " made in" part of the description.
