Quality Design, Materials & Workmanship

We purchased this shaker specifically for use with coarse Kosher salt. This shaker is perfect for our needs. It is relatively small (3 ounces I think) which is what we wanted, since we rarely use salt. The stainless steel top design is simple, yet attractive, with a well designed, graduated pouring hole size feature. The sturdy, clear glass bottom has a slightly tapered curve which makes it a bit more stable and attractive. It has a wide opening for easy filling and cleaning. The quality of materials, design and workmanship were an amazing value for the money. If we didn't already have a pepper grinder we would get another one of these for a matching salt & pepper shaker set.

Great salt shaker

Full disclosure: I thought I was buying the OXO shaker. Oops. That said, this one is great! It has the features I wanted: a large spout for filling, it's dishwasher-safe and, most important, its rotating lid includes a pour spout (when measuring salt for cooking and baking), and two size shaker holes (large and fine). I assumed all shakers were equal, until the dollar-shop version sent salt flying everywhere every time I shook it. Very happy with this purchase.

Looking for a very specific use

I was looking for a dispenser to use for a very specific seasoning that is poplar in Hawaii - Li Hing Mui powder. It is a plum-based powder that is primarily used to flavor dried plums and has been expanded to flavor a variety of other food items. I use the powder to add to cut fruits to give it a tart edge to the natural flavors of the fruit (apples, oranges, pears). The challenge is that this powder is super fine and hard to manage a consistent application. I tired a regular Bell jar and shook out a small amount and it would usually end up collapsing into more powder than I needed. This bottle's smallest opening works perfectly with this application, modulating the amount easily so there is ust the right amount of seasoning I am trying to impart. Itr is easy to fill, the selector moves easily, and it is sturdily built. If it works with this fine powder, I am certain it would work with a variety of contents. Max Joy!

Works Like a Charm… Until It Sneezes Salt

I grabbed this shaker for my MSG (yes, I’m that person who seasons everything like a mad scientist), and overall it does the job really well. Solid build, nice size, looks good on the counter. But the little holes on top seem to get clogged every other meal. I shake it, tap it, threaten it gently, shake it again — eventually the MSG comes out like nothing ever happened.I’ve solved the problem by keeping a toothpick nearby, which makes me feel like a surgeon prepping for seasoning. When it works, it works great, and the price is right. Just be ready for a little maintenance now and then. Four salty stars.

I like this shaker. The holes range from very small to fairly large. There is even a large single hole you can dump a lot of spice at once. I am using this for a finely ground pepper, and it works well.
