Perfect and gorgeous! Just what I needed. Turns on right away when opening and turns off when shut, I keep it on the fridge for easy access and taking meat temps has never been easier! It’s accurate and seems to be durable. It’s aesthetically pleasing as well, modern and simplistic. The magnets could be stronger but honestly it’s worth it!

I imagine this product is meant to be similar to the gold standard in this area, the Thermapen One. I use that as my reference. The reference product claims 1 second response time, and this claims 0.5 seconds. I do believe it is a bit faster, but it's hard for me to measure precisely. Nobody really makes it clear, but I think these thermometers are giving you the thermal time constant (basically, the time it takes to get 63% of the way from the start temperature to the ultimate temperature stable reading). I think that's misleading, but it seems to be common practice. You probably need about 5-6 thermal time constant periods to reach a stable reading. And this thermometer does move fast. See the beginning of my video where I press my thumb and index finger in two spots. One is a few mm above the tip; not much happens. When I press directly on the tip, though, the reading changes rapidly.In the coffee test, second part of the video, the Searon does noticeably get to about 130 F quite a bit faster. But clearly you are waiting more than 0.5 s.Both the reference and the Searon tended to be within 1 degree of each other in any situation I observed, so I'm guessing the Searon is quite accurate.For a thermometer to be this fast, the tip, sensitive area, needs to be very small in mass (and therefore size), so there may be a downside to very fast response. Most likely, it makes the tip less rugged than it otherwise would be. So be careful with this thermometer's tip; it is likely quite delicate. Do you need 0.5 s as opposed to 1 s? I'd probably go for 1 s response, if it meant the tip were more rugged.Some other observations v. the "reference" thermometer.* the Searon is lighter in weight, and probably not as well built overall* the Searon front surface is glossy, and gets kind of fingerprinted and greasy looking quite easily. I like the matte finish on the reference device better.* the Searon probe is far easier to unseat from its rest position ... my guess is that this means the seal is not as effective, and I would discount the claims of this being water proof or resistant. It does say "splash resistant" in one part of the product page; that's likely accurate.* You can see the battery compartment with the Phillips screw holding the lid on, in the photo. If you open it up, the seal is nowhere near as elaborate as the reference thermometer.In summary if you absolutely don't want to spend the money for the reference (in my judgement a superior instrument in several ways), this thermometer may do it for you.
As advertised. Onboard magnet makes it very handy by attaching it to the cook device when not in use.
