This heated, self-stirring coffee (tea) mug by YesWhat is a very welcome addition to my home office desk. I have really grown to like it a lot. I do have another self-stirring coffee mug that I use at my away office, but I like this one much better. With the other, the heating element is in the base that you set the mug onto. This one is built into the bottom of the mug itself. When you set the mug on it's base, little contacts in the base activate the heating element built in to the bottom of the mug and it begins to heat the contents of the mug. There is a little indicator LED on the bottom front of the mug to verify that you have a good connection. This same connection supplies power to the stirring mechanism. There are 2 illuminated touch sensitive buttons on the front of the base. The first one is an on-off toggle for the magnetic stirring "pill" that spins in the bottom of the mug. The other button controls the heating element which can be set to low, medium or high heat. I find that medium is just right for my taste. The heating element being part of the mug itself, is more efficient while it's heating and you don't have this little hot plate that is sitting on your desk, staying hot just waiting to burn you.It looks very well made and feels substantial. I love it, but I wish it had a larger capacity than 11 ounces, like at least 16 ounces. 11 ounces is a bit too small for my drinking preference. I end up making my tea in my 20 ounce mug and pour half of it into this heated mug. I drink the first half out of my 20oz mug and then switch over to the heated mug to continue drinking, enjoying that the second half has remained hot. Normally, by the time I get to the second half of my morning drink, it has cooled to the point that I have to put it in the microwave to get it back to temperature. This is so much better. I give it 4 stars for it's excellent build, though it would be a definite 5 if it were larger. This mug is not inexpensive, but having your drink hot each time you reach for it makes it a good value for the avid coffee/tea drinker!A word of caution: It uses a usb-c type port for supplying power to the mug, however it will not work with the 5VDC supplied with standard USB-C transformers. It has it's own non-standard "usb-c" transformer voltage of 12VDC. Perfect for distractible coffee drinkers
I have a big problem. I love coffee, but I’m also easily distracted. As a result, I often find that after focusing on something for work for what I think is just a few minutes, an hour has gone by. Then I take a sip from my coffee mug only to find the coffee is ice cold. I didn’t get around to drinking it while it was hot! Ugh! So I either have to get a fresh cup, or microwave what’s left in my mug. The first option is wasteful. The second is inconvenient, and never yields coffee that’s as good as it was when it was fresh.Luckily, I’ve found the perfect solution. This self-warming coffee cup. It’s ideal for anyone like me who gets distracted and forgets to drink their coffee while it’s still hot. With its adjustable temperatures, you can set it for whatever temperature you like and it’ll stay that way. Now I use it every day.This warming coffee cup is nicely designed. It’s all metal and has a pleasant satin finish on the outside free from any defects that I can tell. Inside it’s stainless steel. The bottom third of the cup contains the heating element and stirring motor. So the cup is less deep inside than it appears to be outside. Still, it holds about 10 ounces of liquid, which is almost as much as the coffee cup I normally use. It all appears to be very well made, and doesn’t feel cheap at all. (I also love the branding on it. “YES WHAT?” is exactly what I snap at coworkers who bother me before I’ve had sufficient caffeine introduced to my bloodstream.)This beverage warming system comes as a set, with the cup itself, and a base that you plug-in and that lets you control the temperature and stirring action. There’s a plastic covered magnetic agitator that sticks to the bottom of the cup and spins when you activate that function. It’s easily removable and cleanable. Also included is a USB-C cable with a standard wall plug on the other end and a travel lid with a flap that you can close to keep from suffering any spills. When the cup is placed on the base, the contacts on the bottom of the cup meet the contacts on the base and the cup heats up. It’s all very clever.I tested the temperature settings of this cup with a thermometer and found they pretty much match what the manufacturer states. The highest setting, which is what I use, is almost 150°F on the nose. That’s the perfect coffee temperature for me. The stirring action seems a little unnecessary. The only thing I can think is that it’s included to agitate the liquid in the cup for more uniform heating. But because of the vortex it creates, I wouldn’t recommend using it with a full cup. You could easily have liquid splash out the top. Also, that stirring function makes a whirring noise that I find a little distracting, so I really don’t use it. Fortunately, the stirrer turns itself off after about 30 seconds so you don’t have to worry about it staying on all day, but using it still isn’t really something I plan to do.This cup is not dishwasher safe and has to be cleaned carefully by hand so you don’t get water on any of the electronic components. It only takes a few moments and cleans easily. I assume it’s well sealed, but I still avoid getting water on the contacts underneath the cup. And of course, I never wash the base.Overall, I love this little cup. My only wish is that it were a little bigger. A few more ounces of capacity would be fantastic. But other than that, I couldn’t be happier with it!
