Just another kitchen gadget I didn't know I needed!
Always being a sucker for kitchen gadgets, I saw this spatula come available through Amazon’s vine program and had to order it. It arrives packaged in a reasonably decent box, just in case you’re looking at as a small gift for someone.I was expecting something akin to my other spatulas… something rather flexible. It is actually quite rigid except around the head of it… there is some unsupported silicone. Basically, it works great for stirring thick or heavy foods AND does a great job in keeping pot and pan sides clean while cooking. I generally run a flat bamboo spoon/spatula, but it does leave quite a bit of residue. This spatula far outperforms it!Not only does it make cleaning the cooking vessel a bit easier because of how clean it can stay during cooking, the spatula, itself, cleans really easily. Some other highlights… the handle is comfortably thick and feels good in my hand. One side of the spatula has a raised nub. I presume it is to keep the head of the spatula off your countertop to keep things cleaner, but I found it especially handy to rest the spoon on the handle and rim of my large high wall pot and the nub rests nicely between the two against the outside of the pot, keeping it from falling into the pot. Never thought I’d appreciate such a small detail on a spatula!Downsides? Kind of. The soft unsupported lip around the head of the spatula is great on non-stick, presuming the non-stick is in decent condition. But if you have food like a protein that’s searing and sticking to the pan, the lip just doesn’t have the rigidity to scrap the food up. I’ll have to work on my deglazing game a bit more before using this to pull up fond. The rigid section by the silicone lip should have no issue, but experience has taught me that repeated use in such a manner will take a toll on the silicone.Overall, I’m loving this spatula so far and it has earned a spot as my go-to for my non-stick cookware.
