Beautiful and easier to handle because if side handles. Thanks
Generally if you have nice silverware, you want a nice place to put it. The way I understood the function of a silverware box was that it prevents the pieces from touching so that they don't rattle around which could cause scratches to form. The tarnish is reduced by limiting the exposure of your silver to oxygen. My biggest issue, then, is that the box doesn't effectively reduce rattling or contact between the pieces. First, you cannot fit the spoons as shown - regular sized dinner spoons just won't fit unless you alternate them between the teeth/grooves. Another issue is that if you put butter knives in as shown, they flop down and the handles hit the other silverware when the lid is closed. The bottom drawer wouldn't work for forks as shown, as the forks would slide around, but it's also a bit snug for servingware. So silver definitely bumps/rattles around, which makes the box not particularly protective. The side handles are mostly decorative, being too small to function as carrying handles in my opinion. The wood exterior works and I think is fine. However, the lining feels like cheep/paper backed velveteen, and it's not well secured--the material was already starting to separate/peel in the "teeth" (those sticky up bits) on mine.So...the box works fine to hold flatware. This might work fine if you just need something to store extra flatware or for a move, but I wouldn't use it for nicer or more delicate pieces.
About five years ago I inherited my Grandma’s silver. Unfortunately ( I have no idea why; I remember it being in a nice wooden case like this) it was all loose in a cardboard box in the basement and was terribly corroded. I didn’t really have any place to put it and it seemed like a lot of work to clean it up so I put it in a closet and I’m sure it’s even worse now. When I saw this nice wooden storage case, I was inspired to get it. I’m at a stage where I’m doing more entertaining and I thought this would look nice on display. But (especially for the price) I’m a little disappointed in this. It’s very plain and the wood is , well, dull. I guess I’m going to have to polish the box before I polish the silverware! The top almost looks hazy like it has been in a damp area or has been covered in dust or something. The inside is nice velvet. And it should hold a lot of flatware. The hardware is also very plain and looks inexpensive. It’s a good box, but if you’re looking for a show piece, maybe keep looking.
It works just as a silverware chest should. Good quality.
This silverware storage box is not quite what I was expecting. The wood is much lower quality than I was expecting for the price. It's soft wood and came out of the box dinged (see photo). I could see it becoming easily scarred over time. The product photo suggested that the were dividers in the bottom drawer. Upon closer inspection of the photo, after receiving the product, there isn't one which means anything stored there moves around. The drawer is also difficult to open and close. It shifts and gets stuck, causing the tiny knobs to become loose every time. The positives include high-quality hinges. They seem to be very sturdy. The velvet inserts inside the box are well-made. The foam in the center section seems strong and the slots are deep enough for 3-4 utensils stacked, depending on the thickness of your flatware. The biggest problem with this item, is its inaccurate description. The inside of the lid and the middle section each have slots for 12 pieces, which means it is not easily able to hold 16 sets. Additionally, a "set" in this case only includes 3 utensils instead of the standard 5-piece (fork, spoon, knife, salad fork, soup spoon), plus serving utensils. I ordered this to replace my current 30 year old storage case, but it is not large enough to store my 12 full sets without storing multiple pieces in each slot - not super convenient since they're not all the same size.
An elegant fine silverware case with a drawer and padded dividers, this case really looks nice in a cabinet or on a shelf. We have had a nice set of flatware for a long time, but hadn't even taken it out of the box because, first, we hadn't yet had that kind of special occasion, and second, we had no better place to keep it. With this storage box, now we do.The top is separated and lined with a velour-type material to prevent scratches and harsh edges. The top is slotted for knives or other items (see picture). The inside and outside has a good finish, appears well made, and is very solid. It is very sturdy. The sliding drawer on the bottom does not have any dividers or racks and is good for the odd-sized items that may not fit anywhere else (see picture). This box holds an entire set with twelve places easily and does a good job. It holds the weight of that flatware safely and securely. This is an excellent box that does what we need without coming at too high of a price. Great item that we will have for many years or decades to come.
The craftsmanship of this box is very disappointing. There are scratches all over it plus the overall finish is very dull. The bottom drawer doesn’t close properly (it’s misaligned overall). The velvet inserts were poorly constructed also (see inside photos). The wood sort of looks recycled and honestly so does the velvet on the inside. It is capable of storing and protecting silverware although for a smaller set. The handles are ok but there’s no way to latch or ensure it stays closed during transportation.Overall I feel this item needs some improvements, especially for the price point.
