Sold as placemats but more appropriate as the napkins they changed to

I like that they are linen. Appear to be 100%. As a tradeoff linen does wrinkle very easy, especially with it being so thin.Unless you don't mind extremely wrinkly you're going to be ironing these despite what the ad used to say. If you don't like that buy a different material. There are many products that advertise linen and are cotton or poly. I think some people don't realize what linen is.The main part of the product is extremely thin. The edges are double thickness, which would have been nice for the whole thing.When I ordered them these were being sold as place-mats and they have now changed to be napkins. As place-mats they are not great. Bunch up way too easily and seeing through the middle part so easy doesn't look good. As napkins they are serviceable and that is how I will use them. Minus one star for the bait and switch.At sixty dollars I think they are overpriced. They are more than a similar item from a certain high end home goods store.3 stars

Very nice, will need ironing

These are very elegant looking! I love the look of the hemstitch. I wish they were a bit thicker, but I guess linen is light by nature. You will need to press these before using, but they press beautifully and look great on the table. The lighter colors would look wonderful for spring. They really could be used for casual or formal or anywhere in between, very versatile.

Beautiful decorative placemats - not meant to provide heat protection

These are wonderful soft linen placemats. I've noticed some folks on here were complaining because they weren't thick and thus wouldn't provide heat protection for a table. My answer to that is that there's not a linen placemat on the planet that will do that. Linen placemats do not exist to provide heat protection. They are supposed to be a decorative pop of color on your table - and they can protect your decorative tablecloth from getting stained. Taking that as the goal of the placemats, they more than meet that function.The actual linen is a very nice grade - there aren't any straw bits, it's not rough, etc. The hemstitch was even, no puckering, and no stray threads. The linen must have been preshrunk - I washed the linen in warm water and even dried it in the drier and the placemats still measured 14inches by 19 inches. After washing, the linen was wonderfully soft. Linen does wrinkle after washing - so you either have to take them out when they are damp, smooth them for a rustic look, or you can iron them for a very crisp look. I've decided to use mine as rustic napkins, and they are fabulous for that purpose.When I received them, they came nicely wrapped up in their own little box along with a booklet about linen. So they'd be perfect as a host gift or something of that nature. I'm very pleased with them - for four new linen placemats of this quality, it's a great deal in terms of price.

I love these placemats! I chose the indigo navy set and put one out right away on our kitchen table—added my dishes, and wow, it instantly made everything feel more put together. They look and feel expensive, like something you'd see at a boutique home store. What really sets them apart is the decorative edge stitching—I'm not sure of the exact name, but it's that elegant style with tiny open spaces that gives it a fancy, heirloom feel. (I think it might be called a hemstitch?) Whatever it's called, it’s beautiful and definitely makes these placemats look high-end.They’re also made of real linen, so they have that nice texture and weight to them—not flimsy at all. Nothing beats linen in my book. I love the way it feels on your skin, the way it smells and the way it looks. Its just a beautiful natural fiber. These placemats are perfect.
