Efficient slicer
This corer/slicer is easy to use due to its large diameter - giving you lots of leverage to slice through an apple or pear in one movement. Strangely, the cutters are not flush with the bottom of the slicer, so it does not slice all the way through - possibly keeping the slices together at their base for decorative purposes? It is very well-made, extremely sturdy and efficient. They do say hand-wash only (a pity) so I have shied away from putting it in the dishwasher, which may strip its lovely shine. I really don't understand why stainless steel tools cannot be washed in the dishwasher. The only thing that does throw a bit of spanner in works is if the apple is not nice and symmetrically round - as can be seen in the photo, the sizes of the slices are all over the place.The standalone corer has a large diameter - it is too big in fact, and removes too much apple. The only thing it is good for is if you are making whole baked apples or pears and need a wider than normal central section for the filling.
