Prior to this I had a cheese slicer that used a wire and roller and decided to try this instead. Very easy to use. Blade is sharp and cut into the cheese easily, and the cheese is already handled onto the spatula part. Cleans easily and very sturdy.
Works like a charm
Sturdy, and a nice design. The weight of it feels good in your hands. Durable feeling. Easy to use and works well. Like all cheese planers, you have to be careful cleaning the underside to make sure you don't cut yourself!
While the Stainless Steel Cheese Slicer seems well made, the issue is that it only provides thin slices of cheese, and only works best with certain semi-hard cheese such as Cheddar, as it struggles through harder cheeses such as aged Gouda. Also, on softer cheeses it can have a tendency to stick to the cheese, so experimentation may be required to see how well it works. Just an OK item.
We eat a lot of cheese and crackers especially when it's really hot, and no one wants to cook. I've been using a plastic cheese knife to cut my cheese slices, but it's hard to get them thin enough. I found this old fashioned cheese planer, and I thought I'd give it a try.When I opened this, I noticed that it was not well polished, and there was some black polishing compound still on it. It took a LOT of scrubbing and putting it through the dishwasher to get it off.This tool is not pretty looking, and the design is pretty cheap. It is not made with a single piece that is wrapped in a handle; the cutting end is crimped into a hollow tube. It does have a metal loop on the end of the handle for hanging.After it was clean, I tried using this. Surprisingly, the blade is really sharp, and it cut well. It works perfectly on the regular sized blocks of cheese that are most common at the grocery store. Using this tool, I'm able to get uniform slices that are not too thin or too thick. That said, applying extra pressure will yield a slightly thicker slice of cheese because there is some flex to the cutting plane.Although this is not the most attractive cheese slicer, it is really sharp and works well. The price is the best deal on Amazon for this type of cheese planer - $9.99. It's stainless steal, so it won't rust. It's dishwasher safe. I took off one star because of the polishing compound and the fact that it's not very well polished or attractive. My rating - four stars.
