Makes perfect Sauerkraut and Kimchi!
These springs and lid combos are excellent for making fermented food! Simply attach to a wide mouth quart mason jar. Instructions included... follow the simple recipes given to make excellent Kimchi and Sauerkraut. The springs keep the food compressed under the juice in the jar - preventing contact with the air and spoilage. Only one thing to pay attention to: the lids have a soft plastic piece that allows air to escape the jar without letting air from the outside in to spoil your food. Use care in cleaning the lids (recommend washing by hand) - the soft plastic piece can be pulled out of the lid if handled too aggressively. Overall, a great product!

Extremely satisfied
Item arrived exactly as described and works flawlessly. I'm currently using it to make apple scrap cider vinegar, and it's doing the job perfectly. Simple to use and very effective. I’m already planning to buy a second one for other fermenting projects. Highly recommend for anyone into DIY fermentation!

Excellent product! (update)
I just today opened my first jar of sauerkraut made with these lids and the tempered glass weights that Mason Jar Living sells here on amazon and I'm really happy with the sauerkraut I had with lunch. Delicious! I followed a recipe that was in a link provided by Trellis and Co. which made it super easy to put together a batch of kraut in a quart mason jar. I'm impressed with the lid. I don't have experience to draw from but all I can say that for my first time fermenting these lids made things really easy. I love that fact that they're stainless steel and that they'll last a while, hopefully the silicone valve will remain available for as long. The one thing that I have to mention, and the reason I can only give four stars, is that the lids I received are a little bit out of round. I measured one today and it's about 3//32 of an inch out of round. The lid works fine, conforming to the jar as it's tightened. It just bugs me when I put a lid on a glass jar and it binds a bit upon tightening. I think this is a great product. I've got six weights and three lids so I'll probably get three more. My first ferment went really well.UPDATE 8/2/17 I thought I would come back and update my review after using these for a few months. I originally bought 3 lids and found that I was running out of sauerkraut too often, so I bought 3 more and have been eating sauerkraut a couple times a day for a few months now. It's very healthy stuff, good for the mood also. I don't buy probiotics in pill form anymore. I'm impressed that I have not had one failure, not one bad batch with these lids. I've lost count on how many batches I've made, well over a dozen. It's important to leave a little room(1/2-3/4") at the top of the jar so the brine has a place to go instead of out the vent. I also add salt by weight, using a 2% ratio of salt to cabbage. If it's warm I use a 2.5% ratio and all has gone well. I'm using the method I learned from the website Trellis and Co. turned me on to(make sauerkraut dot com), basically for a quart jar it's 800 grams of cabbage to 16 grams of sea salt (I use Redmond Real Salt). Great product, can't wait to try out the new springs!9/9/19 updateI've been using these new thicker (better!) lids along with the pickle helix for several batches of sauerkraut now and I am very happy with how these things work. I have not used my glass weights since I've tried the helix (springs) I still use the original Trellis + Co. lids I bought a couple of years ago and they work just fine. This new version lid is thicker and better, easier and more pleasant to use. Excellent product, well done Trellis + Co. !

Very good but could be even better...
Overall, its probably the highest quality unit for home fermenting Ive found. For fermenting vegetables, the spring hold down is fine. For fine fermented material like sauerkraut, it gets by the coil end of the spring, tangled in the spring, letting small amounts float to the top, exposing it to air over time. The best way is to put a cabbage leaf under the spring to hold back the shredded sauerkraut. As a potential option, small stamped steel plate or cup could be added over the coiled end of the spring, if they want to improve the design. It could be removable to clean, or if not needed, and the diameter can be close to the ID of the jar neck to control material getting past it. Would require a retention clip or hooks to retain it to the coil end of the spring so it doesn't fall off in the jar.Really good, just not perfect yet.

Awesome.
I had previously reported that I didn't receive these fantastic fermentation lids (better the the glass weighs and pickle pipe style).Someone in my family had put them in my fermentation closet for me.I got them, and I love them.I've been fermenting for years. These apply a constant pressure, keeping your stuff anarobic throughout the process.

Works great
I have used multiple types of fermentation weights, glass, ceramic, ones that push down with a screw. None worked very well. Right now I have a glass weight that slid to the side and is 2/3 of the way to the bottom of the jar. These work really well, although I did place them on top of a plastic disc that came in a jar of peppadew peppers. They have compressed the peppers, so now they only fill about halfway up the jar, but of course the brine still fills the jar. I’m an old lady & just have a hard time compressing the vegetables in the jar, even with a wooden muddle my son in law made for me! I did have a bit of trouble getting the lid aligned properly and screwed on because of the stiffness of the spring. But, I’m sure it wouldn’t work as well if it wasn’t as strong as they are!

Awesome product.
I have done 8 different ferments with this product and the only problems I have had were because of me. Easy to use. Saw some reviews about rusting and was worried. I have hand washed with dawn dish soap with no signs of rust so far. Seals hold well and the valves on top are still holding strong. Plan on getting another set for next season.
