Better Than the KitchenAid Original - Worth the Extra $4

After comparing this directly to the official KitchenAid flex edge beater I own for another mixer, I'm surprised to say the aftermarket version is actually better - and I'd buy this one even though it costs $4 more.The key advantage is the silicone edges on BOTH sides of the paddle versus just one side on the KitchenAid version. This design gives better side coverage and virtually eliminates the need to stop and scrape the bowl sides with a spatula when mixing cookie dough, cake batter, or anything moist that typically clings to the sides. That's the whole point of this attachment, and it delivers.Build quality feels excellent - solid weight, sturdy construction, and well-attached silicone that doesn't feel like it'll separate from the metal. Fits my KitchenAid Classic 4.5 quart tilt-head perfectly with no wobble or clearance issues. Installation is just as smooth as original KitchenAid attachments.Two things to know: First, despite being marketed as a "full-bottom mixing attachment," it doesn't actually scrape the very bottom of the bowl - same limitation as the KitchenAid version. You'll still get some buildup there, though the mixing action moves most of it around anyway. Not a dealbreaker since the side scraping is what really matters. Fully coated rubber double sided spatula is a must have!

This mixer paddle is awesome!I have two kitchen-aid mixers, a 5qt tilt head, and a 6qt lift-bowl. Obviously this is made for the 5qt tilt head, but I did fit it onto the lift-bowl and it did a SURPRISINGLY good job on it (despite being specifically marketed to not work on it).But- I will only focus on the tilt-head.When I opened the box and realized that the silicone was solid, covering it neck to tip, I was impressed. There are no joints between the rubber and the metal (except for outside of the food mixing area) for food particles to get stuck in, and then rot, and then make it hazardous to use. So when I went to clean it, it didn't take any extra scrubbing and scraping to get those joints. I just threw it in the dishwasher and it came out perfectly clean.The neck fit exactly right, and because I also have the spring/washer addition to the mixer, it held the spatula all the way to the bottom of the bowl. The rubber is flexible enough to fully scrape the sides of my bowl, even during a brownie batch, and covered the entirety of the sides during mixing.I have a single sided spatula attachment and a double sided attachment, both directly from the OEM, but they also both have joints between the rubber and the metal, and sometimes its hard to get those perfectly clean.For the cost of this attachment, $30, versus the OEM, $49, I'd say the value for your money is clear.
