My mother always made the best mashed potatoes. They were delightfully fluffy and smooth. When I asked her how she achieved this consistency over the years, she said she always used a food mill. So, when I had the opportunity to order the CYSFETENA Stainless Steel Food Masher, I was eager to try it.The product is made of lightweight stainless steel. At first, I had some difficulty assembling it correctly, but once I figured it out, I was able to change the grinder plates easily, and everything worked well. I did notice that the part that holds the handle, known as the crossbar, felt a bit flimsy. However, when it is properly connected to the hopper, it becomes sturdy and functions correctly. The spring holds the scraper firmly against the grinding plate, so be sure to pay attention to the correct orientation of the grinding plate when installing it. Keep in mind that this tool is designed for mashing soft foods. In addition to making excellent mashed potatoes, I also found it helpful for preparing spaetzle and making mostly seedless blackberry jam.The item disassembles quickly for easy cleaning, and I believe that washing it by hand is always the best option. In terms of storage, it does take up some space, but no more than a bowl of the same size. However, I wouldn’t nest another bowl inside the hopper, but that’s a personal choice.Conclusion: While this food mill did not exceed my expectations—which is necessary for a five-star rating—it did meet them, warranting a four-star review. Priced at just over $35, I believe it is slightly overpriced; a price in the $28 range would be more in line with what I would be willing to pay.
