With this type of cube tray there can always be handle problems in the future, so time will tell. As of right now, I can only say these are 1950s or 60s ice cube trays. In the late 70s and 80s, the metal trays got so thin you could crush them like an aluminum can. These trays are thick heavy metal and I couldn't be happier. These are buy once trays as long as the handles hold up, and we all have little tricks to make that happen. Great quality.
I ordered the stainless steel ice cube maker for larger cubes than my refrigerator ice maker produces, which work better for mixed drinks. It works well and freezes more quickly than silicone devices, due to the stainless steel. The directions indicate to let the device sit on the counter for about two minutes before releasing the ice cubes, which will help in releasing them. I then put them in a plastic bag for storing. It appears to be well made and I am hoping it will last a long time.
I got this ice tray to help keep up with the ice supply demand in our house after our automatic ice machine broke. This is a nicely made, durable, and stainless steel ice tray system that makes 18 cubes at a time. The tray is easy to use and features a handle/lever that you pull up on to release the ice cubes. As an added bonus, the ice tray is dishwasher safe! So far, so good with this ice tray.
I keep seeing these look alike ice cube trays in vintage shops. They look like this one but they are much lighter weight. This one is heavy, stainless steel. Not so heavy to lift but heavy when it makes a difference in chilling the cubes fast. The heavier metal seems to absorb cold and make cubes faster. Dishwasher safe is a plus. The cubes are a bit on the small side. They melt quickly.
When I was a kid, my Parents had one of these in Aluminum. After becoming an Adult, I have always had an Icemaker. A few years ago, my very expensive Refrigerator's Icemaker started to freeze up. I got sick for Defrosting it every few month, and gave up. I have been without ice for a couple years now. When I saw this, I had to get it! The old Plastic ones would crack and discolor. The old Aluminum ones would dent. I am hoping this Stainless Steel one is 'just right'. So looking forward to having ice again!!! Tip: After opening the lever, to release the ice; I find putting the ice in an airtight container, makes it last longer, and not become a big frosted clump (see pic).
This is great! It's a quality build, very sturdy and easy to clean. The lever function works well to release the ice, and the ice cube size is pretty hefty! I prefer using this ice tray over any silicone one because I feel safer knowing there are not any dry rot plastic pieces getting in my drinks. We love this so much we plan on buying a second! This is 100% worth it!
