Working well 1 month in

1 month in so far so good. Be sure to let trays sit out for at least a minute before you try to break the ice.

This brings back memories... very functional retro ice tray

We had this sort of ice tray back in the 80s, and before, and I decided to give it a try again decades later. Definitely brings back memories, and it's easier to remove cubes from this than a lot of the modern trays I have.At $20 it's definitely banking on nostalgia, but if you know this design, you probably want one again. Go for it. I can't say a lot more. It makes ice, nice size blocks, and it's kinda fun to use.

Non-leaching vintage charm!

I switched to this stainless-steel tray to avoid plastic and was pleasantly surprised by its solid build and vintage charm. It feels sturdy and well-made, and while the lever mechanism takes a little practice, letting it sit for a few minutes before cracking makes all the difference. I will say we got a little frustrated with it and thought it was broken, but we soon realized that the lever was not in the right position prior to freezing. If you find yourself in the same situation, before you freeze you have to maneuver it so that the lever lays flat against the divider top to give it the proper torque. Once you get the hang of it, the cubes release cleanly and are a great size for cocktails or iced tea.I appreciate that it’s easy to clean and feels like it’ll last for years. The one downside is that they aren't stackable, but there are workarounds that are worth the assurance that plastic isn't leaching into our ice and that we are making a kinder choice for the planet. If you’re ready to ditch flimsy, leaching plastic trays that only last for a few months before breaking and embrace a more sustainable option, this one’s a great choice!

Not Quick to Use + Messy + Inconvenient

Hate to say but wanted to convey my disappointment. Trying to reduce plastics in my eating/drinking routines so I thought about this and eventually went for it. I saw some negative reviews but was hoping it would work well for me anyways.1) tray has to thaw on the counter for 5-10 min before you can even think about lifting handle and releasing the cubes. I guess maybe you could run it under hot water ?? idk. But don’t forget about it on the counter for too long or you’ll be back to tray of water lol - I found only filling the tray half full before freezing helps, but not entirely.2) trying to lift the handle and release the cubes often times for me has turned in to an explosion of cubes/chunks/flakes going everywhere. And by that point you either need to be using the whole tray at once or have an alternate storage planned for the rest because you can’t easily fit the remaining cubes back into their spots in the tray.3 stars because.. well.. it does make ice cubes and it’s not plastic. I’m not getting rid of it, but I’m not buying more and it’s not the go-to I’d hoped.

Durable, Healthier Alternative to Plastic Trays

This stainless steel ice cube tray feels sturdy and well-made, and I love that it’s a healthier option than plastic. There’s no worry about chemicals leaching into the ice, and the metal design chills faster, so the cubes actually freeze more quickly than in my old plastic trays. The easy-release handle makes popping out 18 uniform cubes simple and mess-free.It also has a nice vintage look that adds a bit of charm to the kitchen. Beyond ice, I’ve used it to freeze small portions of herbs and broth, and it works just as well for that. Since it’s made of durable, rust-resistant steel, I don’t have to worry about it cracking or warping over time the way plastic trays often do.The handle does take a firm pull at first, but once you get the motion down, it works smoothly. Overall, this tray is a practical, eco-friendly upgrade that makes ice faster, lasts much longer than plastic, and looks great in the freezer.

Lovely vintage-style ice cube tray

I was really excited to receive this vintage-style ice maker. It's a sturdy, well-made product that feels built to last, but it does come with a bit of a learning curve. Removing the ice from the mold can be challenging—especially for anyone with arthritis or limited hand strength. The handle doesn’t break the ice easily, and at times, it feels like it might snap with too much force. While the tray is a great sustainable alternative to plastic and should last a long time, it's not stackable, which means it takes up a bit more space in the freezer. The cubes it produces are slightly shallower than standard ones, but they make up for it in width. It's note as functional as I had hoped, but is good for anyone wanting to convert their kitchen to stainless steel.Overall, it's a charming and eco-friendly option, but be prepared for a bit of effort when removing the ice.

Stainless steel, sturdy, works well

We live on a rural water district, and we are on a deadend line off the circulating line and at night when no one‘s using the water we get sediment which makes it difficult for us to use an ice maker in the refrigerator. We’ve been buying ice but it takes up a lot of room in the freezer. I saw this ice tray and it reminded me of the ones we had when I was a kid and I decided to try it. This is made of stainless steel, made in China, but much better quality than the aluminum ones we had when I was growing up. It’s heavier than I expected it to be.It’s not quite as deep as the ones I remember but it’s deep enough. The instructions say set it on the counter one to two minutes before attempting to loosen. I left it for two minutes and there were only a couple of cubes left at the very end that I had a little difficulty loosening. This is sturdy, works as it should, and I may buy a second one which should provide plenty of ice for two of us.
