Great lunch box containers! Not super bulky and fits well in lunchbox.
For the price ($14.99 at the time of purchase in October 2025), this set of three containers provides a versatile way to store and transport food. The gauge of the stainless steel is thin/light, with curled top edges that provide support for the push-on lids. It also shows fingerprints pretty easily. The lids are bend-y plastic with an inner seal that depresses into the container when you push the lid on. On top of the lid, there’s a plastic pop-up piece with a ventilation hole. Since the containers aren’t microwavable and the lids can’t be used in an oven, the only purpose I can think for using the vent would be to allow steam to escape if they’re used for hot foods and/or to allow air to escape so you can push the lid down into place and obtain a decent seal. The vent pop-up has a center dial marked off in increments of 5’s from 5 to 30. I have no clue what this would be used for, and the manufacturer doesn’t provide any hints on the product page. The three containers nest, but the lids would need to be stored separately.I’m giving this item four stars instead of five for a couple of reasons. The lids push on rather than having lockable side/edge tabs, so they may potentially lift off and spill the contents. The metal gauge is pretty light, so I can feel the heat and cold on my hands from the food. Also, can’t figure out the use/advantage of the small white dials on the vent pop-up – would be nice to know what benefit this offers.
Quite a few years back I stopped using plastic containers for food storage, and replaced them with glass ones, with locking plastic lids. These metal containers have now joined the glass ones and are used for food storage in the fridge and in the freezer. and I like them for this purpose.I haven't used them to transport food yet, so I can't comment on this aspect, though the fact that the lids are held in place by pressure and not by locking tabs would make me a bit hesitant to use them for this purpose. I guess a sturdy rubber band may solve this problem, but I'd probably prefer to transport food in a container with a locking lid, to avoid the risk of the lid popping off. On the other hand, a metal box is not subject to breakage risk in transport, which the glass containers are.I like the fact that these containers are not only lighter than glass, but also have much thinner walls, which means less space is wasted in the refrigerator and freezer.I also like how easy it is to clean the stainless steel, and when they get really dirty they can be placed in the dishwasher and come out squeaky clean. I don't put the lids in the dishwasher, because I believe that it would reduce their longevity (but if you are not worried about that, they can definitely join the boxes in the dishwasher). As claimed on the product page, the containers are leak proof (through both the seal around the lid and the the vent hole). Speaking of the vent hole, for lack of a clear explanation on the product page, I am guessing that the purpose of this hole is either to create a slight vacuum in the container by pressing the lid in (it's flexible) and then closing the valve, or to allow venting of steam when hot food. It is indeed possible to create some vacuum (the lid does stay depressed) but I am not sure how much that helps in preventing the lid from spontaneously popping off. I have not yet had a chance to test the steam venting hypothesis. The white dial in the middle of the lid is marked from 1 to 31. (The numbers 1, 5, 10, 15,... are shown explicitly and there is a little bar for all other numbers (2,3,4, 6,...31), but they are hard to see. I take it to be meant to mark the day of the month that the food was stored in the box. For me this is useless for two reasons: First of all, the dial moves freely, so the likelihood that it will stay where it was set is very slim. Second, I use it to store food in the freezer for periods longer than a month, so the day of month is not sufficient. So I need to use labels with these containers just like with all others.
The listing does not say whether these containers are freezer or oven safe. The lids are lightweight plastic and they seem to go on tight enough to be put in the refrigerator, but I would not trust them in a backpack situation. They do have air vents on the top that can be snapped open or closed, so you can put hot food in the container and put the lid on while you're preparing other food for your meal, but otherwise I do not know what the purpose of the vent is as the lid cannot be heated. There's a little dial you can use to mark the date when you filled the containers. With better lids, these would be better storage/lunch box containers. As it is, I've been using them to store like pastries and snacks that don't need refrigeration. They should be good for marinating food in the refrigerator. I do like that the lids can be looked through to see what's inside, as people in my house keep bypassing the containers with solid lids. As it is, I would use these containers for food storage, then move the food to other dishes for reheating.
I stopped using plastic storage containers a few years ago and switched to glass as it is a healthier option. Glass is less expensive than stainless, though much heavier. I am so pleased to have found these stainless steel containers! They come in three sizes, just as measured and described in the product description. They look very cute. The quality of the metal is good and they're well finished on the edges. The lids are plastic. However, they're the kind of plastic that is a healthier type. They fit the boxes well and have a venting lock on top. Obviously, you cannot microwave in the box because it is metal. However, if you put hot food in it, you can open the vent to cool it off.I have used the biggest box to store leftover stew in the fridge, and the smaller ones repeatedly to take lunch and cut up fruit to work. The lids stayed on and everything arrived in perfect condition.I think these are great value for the price and judging by the solid quality of the materials, they will last me a long time.
