What others aren't telling you about bamboo steamers

So... inside the box are bamboo chopsticks, tongs, two small ceramic dishes, cheesecloths, and the bamboo baskets. What's NOT in the box are directions on how to actually use all of these things. I mean, no booklet, no folded paper, no three by five card. Nothing. If you don't have any experience using bamboo steamers you're going to be lost and can potentially damage the baskets from incorrect use.I am one of those people who has NO experience using bamboo steamers.Yeah, sure I want to eat healthier, but with nothing in the box and an unwillingness to just wing it, I resorted to online videos and tutorials. After a minute I discovered that you need to hand wash these in soapy hot water and then steam them in boiling water(?) and then let them dry and cure before you can even use them. Apparently this it keep it from warping and getting moldy. Why don't they do this at the factory? Why isn't all of this information printed up and put inside the box?Ugh. Seriously, I don't want to eff around with this. Not today. Three stars for being in good condition, but I don't have the patience to deal with all the time and steps to just get this ready to use and I AM knocking stars off my rating for not having directions in the box. I may just give this set to someone who actually has patience for this nonsense and knows what they're doing.

Would have been great but came broken unfortunately...

I was really looking forward to receiving this item but was really disappointed when it arrived because it is broken. The lid is broken because half of the top is not seated & sealed as it should be. I tried pushing it down myself to see if I could push it into place but it felt like it was going to break more doing so, so I stopped trying. Unfortunately the steaming portion is unusable due to this issue because all of the steam would just escapes through the large unsealed portion in the lid. It would have fit perfectly in a pot that I have which is a big reason why I ordered it in the first place. The bamboo tongs, 2 sets of chopsticks, 2 little dipping bowls & 10 perforated liners are of great quality & the steaming set itself would be as well if it wasn't broken. It would definitely be a great value for the price if it had come not broken as everything otherwise was very well made & of very good quality.

Fun set for dim sum at home

I recently started learning how to make Chinese dim sum at home, and this bamboo steamer set showed up at just the right time. The two-tier design gives me plenty of space to steam buns and dumplings, and it heats evenly, which has been great for a beginner like me. It also comes with a bamboo clip, ceramic sauce dishes, perforated liners, and a couple pairs of chopsticks, so it feels like a complete starter kit. The steamers do have a few rough or sharp edges straight out of the box, but that doesn’t bother me much since it doesn’t affect how they work. The chopsticks are pretty low quality and feel more like disposable extras, but they’re just bonuses, so I’m not too concerned about them. Overall, the set is functional, fun to use, and has made practicing dim sum a lot more enjoyable. For the price and everything included, it’s an easy five-star pick for my kitchen.
