Very sleek and sturdy; base is strong black plastic
This is a very nice and sturdy utensil holder, apparently designed for sitting in the corner on a counter. While it has the look and sturdy design that we wanted and expected, the bottom of the utensil holder is made of plastic instead of metal. The black plastic base is shiny and appears to be easy to clean, but more importantly it seems quite durable. Though not as durable as a metal base, it makes the utensil holder lighter and easier to carry; while still heavy enough that it is not easy to knock over. The base is elevated off of the counter, so that if the counter gets wet or dirty, the utensils inside the holder should remain clean and dry. I can even imagine placing wet utensils into this container to dry, as there are holes so that water will not pool and collect, and the open design allows for plenty of airflow. And the plastic base will not rust, obviously. The holder comes with two removeable dividers that you can use to separate different utensils. The dividers also help keep utensils upright, whereas they might be inclined to fall over without the dividers.
