I thought this would be a good gift for my husband but he is pretty old school and does not adapt to change very well. He’s had a small old meat thermometer that he’s used for years and is pretty happy with it. He used this one once, and although I loved the color and the convenience of folding away the probe, he likes his lightweight one the best. Seeing as he is the cook in the family, we do what he’s comfortable with! He did say comparatively on the temperature aspect, they were pretty spot on the same. This is a good sign!
I love this handy little thermometer for indoor and outdoor grilling. It’s really cute, with its lime green color and black accents, and it feels very solid and durable. There’s a battery case for two AAA batteries on the back of the thermometer, with a small screw to hold the backing in place. A screwdriver is included to facilitate the changing of batteries. It’s a really nice size and fits comfortably in your hand. I like that it’s not super big or heavy, so you can insert it in your meat and it stays in place without tipping over. To power it on, just pull out the probe and it’s ready to go. Put the probe back in place, and it turns. The numbers are nice and large and easy to read, and the screen is backlit making it easy to read the numbers at a glance. There’s also a button to select Celsius or Fahrenheit. I was surprised at how quickly this thermometer reports the temperature. It works faster than the two other meat thermometers I have. A Hold button lets you pause the temperature climb.I tested all three of my thermometers to check for accuracy, and each one had a slightly different read. I don’t which one was the most accurate, but they only varied by a few degrees. The carabiner that comes with this thermometer lets you hang it in a convenient place, like on the side or your grill, on your belt, or a hook in your pantry.
PRO: Very large numbers are easy to see. Temperature reading is accurate. Included batteries & screwdriver much appreciated.CON: Temperature probe is TOO SHORT (see picture). Have to get my hand much closer to the grill than my other meat thermometer. The carabiner clip is nice but mostly useless (unless you’re going to clip it to your belt loop). Would have been better if it had a magnet on the back like my other one (see picture). Price point is WAY too high for a simple thermometer. Can’t recommend
First day on the job, the metal probe came right off as I cleaned it with an alcohol pad. I think it must be affixed with a glue that softens when you have to temp a handful of items. Very, very dissatisfied.
This product gets five stars from me for its accurate meat reading temperature that helps me know when my meat is done cooking. The meat thermometer only comes in one color and that is green but its a very vibrant neon green and black. This thermometer is water proof, take batteries, and is easy to transport it from outside to inside when grilling outside. The thermometer came with a small screwdriver to use when needing a batter chain and its own clasp that clips on to your belt look or on anything it can hang on. It does not take up much room in the kitchen drawer and you are able to clean it easily. In order to use this meat thermometer you will need to pull the metal pen outward till the light turns on and you are able to adjust it if you do not want it to be straight out. This makes a great fathers day gift for a dad that loves to be on the grill.
We recently got a new (to us) grill, after never having owned one before. I figured a thermometer would come in handy! This thermometer is very easy to use, and has a large digital display, that is easy to read. The display turns on once you bring out the needle, and it starts counting up in value, as it reads the temp. It's pretty quick, but you have to just wait for it to stop increasing in value, to determine it's done- there isn't any sort of beep or blinking or anything, to clue you in that it has a final read. After about 30 seconds, the backlight turns off, and if you leave it open for about 3 mins more, the display screen turns itself off.The screwdriver included is nice, since you need one to open the battery panel. However, I don't know who doesn't own a (or multiple) screwdriver(s), and this one will be really easy to lose, since you won't need it very often. It would be more handy if there was a secret hiding place for it, or if the battery compartment wasn't locked behind a screw at all.Overall, I have no reason to doubt the measurement, it is easy to use, and works as expected, at least to someone who doesn't have a whole lot of experience with meat thermometers. I also appreciate that it says that it's built to withstand accidental splashes, and it seems easy to clean. I'm not sure how durable it really is, since it's made of plastic, but the bright green color at least makes it easy to keep track of.
