This greatly helped my grilling
It has been a long while since I grilled on charcoal and I wanted to make sure whatever I cook will be done and safe to eat (and tasty too). I picked up the ThermoPro TP902 2-probe thermometer to help get me there. It was pretty simple to operate, which I appreciate. After reading the instructions, (yes, there are men like me who actually do that and the world hasn't ended yet) I downloaded the ThermoPro app to my phone and put in the batteries in the sending unit. Once I told the unit to connect and selected the sending unit on my phone, it quickly connected to my phone using bluetooth.I stacked charcoal on one side of my little 14" Weber Smokey Joe, and lit one end of the stack with a Bernzomatic torch, put on the cooking grill, and set the seasoned roast on the grate. Then I used the clip to hold one probe on the grate and inserted the other probe into the thick end of the meat. Then I put on the cover and watched the probe temperatures on the phone app.The app did lose connection with the sending unit at one place in our house. Considering at that location there is plumbing in the walls and a steel file cabinet between the phone and the ThermoPro unit, I can't knock it too much for that failure. The connection was reliable everywhere else in the house and the yard, even upstairs where there is foil faced insulation in the walls. The grill probe showed that the temperature away from the charcoal got up to 250F and stayed there. The meat probe gradually moved up to my selected finish temperature. After a while, the app showed approximately how much time was left for the meat to be cooked. The app beeped loudly when the temperature inside the meat had been reached. I pulled the roast, put it on a plate and let it rest while I cooked sweet corn for the vegetable. The roast exceeded my expectations in both flavor and juicyness. I think next time I will let it cook a little longer, to the next level of doneness. Otherwise, this was a very successful experiment with superior results.I am super pleased with the ThermoPro thermometer. It really came through for me. I am definitely going to do more grilling this summer. I'm already thawing a chicken for the next grilling adventure. Part of the plan is to have good food while keeping the heat out of the house and saving power on the electric bill. With my grill and the ThermoPro thermometer, I know this plan is going to work out just fine.
