My wife is tired of me telling her how much I love this thing
This thing is fantastic. It's below freezing outside right now, my slab of bacon is in the smoker, and I don't have to go out there to check on it. I can monitor the internal temperature from anywhere inside my house, or I can just ignore it and wait until the alarm tells me it's done. I bought the 2000 ft version, but I haven't had to use the repeater because it works fine without it. Not bad, considering the probes are transmitting from inside a double-walled steel box.The features are handy and easy to use. The backlight is bright, and it turns off by itself after several seconds. The pre-programmed meat temperatures mean I don't have to look them up every time. I like being able to set it to my own temperature as well. The magnetic mount and the fold-out stand on the back are handy. The batteries in the probes last for hours, enough for a good long cook. I had a friend check them against a NIST-calibrated standard, and they are accurate within less than one degree F.This unit is independent from my phone, which I really like. I don't have to mess around with pairing. I can go into town and my wife can listen for the alarm. For really long cooks I can mute my phone when I go to bed, and this thing will alarm and wake me up when the meat is done.I first bought this to go with my rotisserie. Previously I would have to go outside, open the smoker, wait until the chicken turned to the right position, shut the rotisserie off, stick in a thermometer, read the temperature, pull the thermometer, close the smoker, go inside and wait half an hour, go back outside, open the smoker, realize I forgot to turn the rotisserie back on, and so forth. No more of that. Now I can just stick one of these probes in and ignore it until it's done.
