This is amazing! It’s like magic! It’s brilliant! It literally doesn’t let anything boil over which mean a no mess on the lid, the outside of the pan or the range top. Rice & pasta so fun to make now. How did my sister have one for several years and not tell me about?
After seeing many videos and reviews of this product, we decided to give it a try since we have one meal in particular that loves to boil over the pot. The first time we used the spill cover on our rice noodles, it worked perfectly. A second time, not so much. Our water managed to spill over through the holes in the sides of the cover, thus making an even bigger mess since we did not catch it in time. You also have to be careful when removing this cover because, of course, it is hot. We slide it quickly off into the sink before we strain the food. It is an improvement versus using nothing but not perfect.
I didn't buy this lid as a spill over protector, but tested it boiling potatoes and it works as defined. My interest was in having a lid for popcorn. It works almost perfect for popcorn. Steam escapes, once in a great while an unpopped kernel gets out, but it's rare. Use this lid all of the time.
So I bought this thing thinking it would be a great idea since everything is boiling just fine until you turn your back for ONE second. Of course, I forgot to take it out of the cupboard and use it so once again everything went spilling all over the stove and counter. But...I remembered it last night, everything is boiling just fine, turned my back and boom...it boils over...onto the spill stopper! Biggest smile on my face that I've had in a long time. So yes, buy it but don't forget to use it. Just be careful as you take it off the pan as the steam escapes when I tried to stir my pasta. Great little product.
Doesn't make sense!! If the cover has to go over the pot and there's holes in that to let steam out, how do you stir your food? You can't! Because either all the water falls out one side, or you burn your hand trying to lift it up to stir.ABSOLUTE WASTE OF TIME
As noted by others, the center cap does not attach to the main lid, so you can’t hang them as a set; however, I've found that the center cap works great as a cover for miscellaneous bowls, so I store it separately anyway.I bought this specifically for making rice in a saucepan. For brown rice, it worked flawlessly. The lid formed a tight seal, with no steam escaping at all around the rim of the pot. The removable center cap vented more steam than a standard lid, but it retained enough steam to cook the rice properly. But...When I tried it with sushi rice, it didn't work as well. The more glutinous rice creates a lot more foam, and because the center cap isn't attached to the lid, the steam and foam knocked the center cap out of place, letting out an excessive amount of steam. In addition, when the rice had cooked and I took it off the heat to rest, the center cap inverted itself (see photo) and again let out an excessive amount of steam until I flipped it back down. In addition, the residue that was left on the lid after cooking was a pain to clean off due to the ridges on the top of the lid.I like the concept, but I'm not convinced this is the best design. I may try the popular Kuhn Rikon Kochblume model, although it's twice the price and doesn't have the versatile center cap.5/10/22 Update: Be sure to inspect the lid before using it. After using it for months, I had a small ring of silicone that came off when washing it today (see pic). It is obviously a remnant from when they stamped the holes during manufacturing... Not a big deal, but you don't want it coming off in the food you're cooking!
