Nice and big, easy to remove from the mold
I’ve never used one of these before, but I’m impressed with how easy it is to fill and remove the cubes. Nice big cubes! Too big for some of my drinkware, but it’s just fun to use an enormous ice cube.

I’ve never used one of these before, but I’m impressed with how easy it is to fill and remove the cubes. Nice big cubes! Too big for some of my drinkware, but it’s just fun to use an enormous ice cube.
These make great ice orbs for keeping drinks cold without diluting them too much. Closing the four-pack can seem fiddly the first couple of times, but they’re truly as simple as they seem and easy to manage. As with any ice tray, ice will pick up scents from the freezer and clarity is dependent on the purity of the water supply - hard water will be cloudier. If the scents are strong enough, there may be some flavoring. My solution to this is to put a slice of lemon or a mint leaf in each ice orb.
Just what I've been looking for! You might say I've been on a mission. These are my 4th effort to find the right forms for big ice cubes to use in fancy cocktails. The first one I bought had a funky smell, no matter what I did to try to get rid of that. The second ones were great, just too small for my intended use. The third ones were awful--hard to use, forms would not come off easily, the cubes would come out cracked. I posted reviews for the latter two. These are the perfect big size, have no odor, come with helpful lid, and the cubes are easily pushed out of the forms. Success!
We've had the sphere mold for a few months now, and I'm pretty pleased with it. First let's get the negatives out of the way: It's a little awkward to pour water in the first few times if you've never done it before, but you get the hang of it. Be sure to place it on a flat surface in the freezer though, because the seal isn't always perfect and you don't want anything slipping out. You do have to be very sure that the mold is sealed; you have to keep pressing down on the rim a few times. I'm pretty sure that, even with hand-washing, we'll have to replace it eventually just because it seems like the kind of material that will warp with use, but they're not too expensive so I don't mind. That being said, it makes ice that is GREAT for cocktails. It's really changed our drink game. I was honestly surprised at how good and, well, spherical the ice spheres turned out when I made them the first time.
Funny story: Our fridge failed a few months ago, and with it the ice maker. But we have another fridge/freezer unit, so I began freezing roughly 1/4 cup of water in Solo cups, just to have ice available—and found I liked these bigger long-to-melt ice cubes. So even after the repairs, I began looking for ice cube trays which would let me have these big cubes longer-term.I think the W&P Peak silicone trays are great and well-made, and bought two of them. I cannot detect any untoward flavor. The cubes pop right out just by pushing from the bottom. While attachable covers would be nice, the provided lid does let me stack two of these on top of each other for freezing. I now use a large plastic container to store the frozen cubes and refill the trays using the refrigerator's filtered water pitcher. One especially good feature is the rigid rim, which holds it all steady when stacked for freezing. One tip to avoid misshapen cubes: Do not fill the containers all the way, because the water will expand on freezing. I've found that roughly 1/4-3/8 inch from the top works reasonably well. The top will still be a tad puffed out, but the sides and bottom will remain straight. Anyway, I've had these for about six weeks now and would definitely buy again if I needed to (not that I see a need to).
It'll take a bit to perfect the outcome, however it's super fun and I'm enjoying experimenting with it. I like the fact that it's fairly easy to get near to clear ice cubes with this mold. In research on this, there's apparently a method to extract the air that makes ice cubes "cloudy", vs. clear. This mold helps with that situation even with tap water. I've been more successful with crystal clear cubes after letting water sit for about 12 hours and then gently filling the mold. I have a tendency to overfill the mold and get a bit of an irregular shape. It seems like commercial ice machines have the ability to extract air to make crystal clear ice cubes. I don't want to go that far, however I'll experiment with distilled water, etc. to see what the effect is with that. I just don't want an odd taste due to the water used to make this massive ice cube. Who knows, however I'll keep experimenting with this super cool product.I'll keep trying. I highly recommend this product. It is very easy to use, it is high quality and will likely work well for a long time (durable). I can definitely say that the ice cube that is produced lasts for a very long time in the hot summer heat. Massive.Very fun!
Cubes look pretty nice and clear. Easy to remove. Some do have a tendency to break or crack soon after you put in glass, but that might be because I need to freeze closer to top of my freezer to get colder. I’ll try that once I have room.
