Works well. It’s light weight. Not feel like cast iron
This is a beautiful wok and will last a long time if you follow the maintenance required. A lot of good meals to enjoy in years to come without toxic chemicals. Get one!
This wok performs well where it counts most—in the cooking. It heats evenly and is excellent for quick stir-fries. However, a few design choices are disappointing.The wooden lid doesn't sit perfectly on the wok, which is a minor annoyance. A more significant issue is the cloth-wrapped handles. They don't dry well after washing and have unfortunately caused the underlying metal to rust.While it works well for cooking, the flawed handle design and ill-fitting lid hold it back from being a great product.
Third time is a charm! This is my third WANGYUANJI piece and I love it just as much as the first two. How had I not heard of this brand for so long! I'm sure happy we crossed paths.My family loves fried rice and a wok is best/only tool to use. I can finally make fried rice at home! Not to mention steam dumplings and veggies.WANGYUANJI never misses their mark of exceptional quality, durability, functionality and exquisite style. I mean their cookware has personality. This wok is no exception. It is heavy and made of quality cast iron. Don't worry, I have a glass top and it hasn't cracked or scratched it. The cracks and "imperfections" in the wok itself are beautiful, in my opinion. It makes each piece unique. It feels like you're receiving a heirloom from your Nana versus a factory-made cookie cutter indistinguishable big box wok. The dirty box? Love that too. It is the proof of true craftsmanship. In this sterile world of perfect products, I am happy that this wok shakes things up.Speaking of shaking things up, let's get to how it cooks. Evenly and heats up quickly. The hemp-wrapped handles help protect your hands during intense wok tossing. The long and quite beautiful spatula matches the vibe of the wok perfectly and glides across the surface with ease.Just be sure to season your wok before use. Follow the manufacturer's instructions, use a high-quality oil (preferably flaxseed oil) and you should have a perfectly nonstick surface to cook on. If your food sticks, season again. It is always a bad idea to wash cast iron in detergent, let it soak in water or leave it wet to store and this wok is no exception. I also love the natural walnut lid that this wok comes with. While it seems like it will hold up well, it is best not to stress it with submersions or soaking either.For artisanal specialty cookware that will likely outlive its owner, $73 is a very reasonable price. There are others out there that bring far less to the table and cost much more.
I love to cook with cast iron, but I am in my mid-40’s and those large fry pans are a lot of trouble in the pouring/using/cleaning department. I do a fair share of wok related cooking and I think this was a very nice wok. It is nice and deep, but is surprisingly light and easy to use. I do NOT love the designer flair of the jute like ropes on the handles and the wood lid, but that is for cleaning reasons. You have to be a pro-active iron user though ensuring the seasoning/cleaning/drying process. You don’t want a rusty pan. You also don’t want any issues with sticking, too. The heat distribution was nice, it made a nice beef broccoli tonight.
The main reason I got this was because its cast iron and I've been replacing all my "non-stick" pans with healthier alternatives like cast iron and enamel-coated cast iron. This wok is great quality and I like it came pre-seasoned. It works fine on my induction stovetop. I like it came with a lid and the other extras like the steel scrubby to make cleaning easy! Works same as other cast iron. I would recommend!
