I thought iron wok will be super heavy! It is not at all! Easy to take care! Easy to use! The best steel wok I ever used!
Very good, Chinese cooking
This pan is a high quality item. It comes well packaged in cloth bags, for both the pan and lid, and includes a plethora of accessories to get you cooking. The pan has a removable handle which is great for packing, if you intend to use this pan for camping. The lid is glass with a metal ring, vent hole and wood knob. The best feature in my mind is the hammertone pattern on the pan, gives is a very elegant touch. The heat distribution is good, less heat is more when cooking with iron, it's weighty and feels good when tossing food around. The depth is great for most things, stir frys, shallow frying and steaming. The pan is easy to use and has a place in my kitchen and camp kit. As with any iron pan clean it with soap, and dry immediately and you will mitigate rusting.
Very poor quality. After only 3 months of normal use, holes started appearing in the iron wok. Completely unacceptable and unsafe to use. Horrible quality—do not buy.
WHATS INCLUDED: Iron skillet, tempered glass lid, metal spatula, scoring pad, cleaning brushPRODUCT/THOUGHTS: If you're looking to cook healthier, Wangyuanji skillet is an iron skillet that is advertised to not have anti-stick chemicals that traditional cooking pans have. It’s flat on the bottom so it can be used on a gas or electric stove top or even the grill. It does not arrive seasoned, so it does take some time to do this and needs to be done, in order for the pan to become “non-stick.” The skillet is good quality and sturdy with a wooden handle. The tempered glass lid is see-through, so you can easily keep an eye on the progress of your meal cooking without constantly lifting the lid. Would definitely recommend this.
This is my first Wangyuanji skillet. It doesn't come pre-seasoned, so I had to do a bit of research to season it myself. That one-time bit of effort was absolutely worth it, because it now performs brilliantly.I love that I don't have to baby it with special utensils; I can use any spatula without worrying about scratches. It conducts heat incredibly fast, making it perfect for quick stir-fries.Priced at $62.99, I think it's fairly priced for a skillet that feels so durable and effective. A great piece of cookware once you get it started!
This is my second WANGYUANJI piece and I am just as impressed as I was with the first. This one came right on time. My tears hadn't yet dried from having to toss my once non-stick Le Creuset skillet that my daughter scratched beyond recognition with a fork (RIP), when this one arrived on my doorstep. As a diehard Le Creuset collector, it is VERY difficult to get me to invest in other cookware brands. WANGYUANJI is now the ONLY exception. This brand has earned a place in my rack with their superior quality and the undeniable style of their cookware. It isn't just about brand names and prestige in my kitchen, cookware has to work and work well. Now, let's get into this skillet in particular...QUALITYAt his point, I'm convinced that WANGYUANJI doesn't make anything of questionable quality. This skillet is no exception. It is heavy, as a cast iron skillet should be. But, not too heavy to bring down your pot rack or crack your glass top. There is such thing as too heavy pots and pans. This piece balances quality and weight well.SIZEIn my opinion, 11" is perfect for my family of two( and possibly even three). I have an old habit of cooking way too much food at once. If anything, this skillet helps me keep portions in check.MAINTENANCEDo not be intimidated or deterred that this skillet comes unseasoned. I actually prefer to do my own seasoning because then I know what is on it. I am always suspicious of factory season. My inner skeptic always wonders what cheap industrial oil did they use. So, unseasoned gives me peace of mind and a clean slate to do things my way. It is really helpful that the wooden handle detaches, because it protects the wood from the stress of seasoning. Again, I suggest seasoning without the handle attached. If you are unfamiliar with seasoning cast iron, follow these simple steps and you will be good to go.1. Wash it thoroughly, and dried it completely.2. Rub a LIGHT coat of oil all over (inside and out).3. Place it in the oven upside down at 400°F for about an hour. I suggest placing a pan underneath to catch any residual oil to decrease the risk of an oven fire. But, if you use a THIN layer of oil, this won't be necessary but just a safety precaution.5. Let it cool, and now it’s nonstick. You want to choose an oil that has a high smoke point and doesn't leave behind a tacky film. Tacky = sticky ≠ nonstick. The best oils to use to season are (in order of suitability):1. Flaxseed oil – makes a super hard and smooth layer, harder to find, and pricier.2. Grapeseed or canola oil – affordable, easy to find, and works great.3. Vegetable oil or sunflower oil – also solid choices for everyday seasoning.Avoid olive oil and butter or else you will have a smokey and sticky mess. Try to use flaxseed oil, if possible. Do not wash with detergents or allow the skillet to sit in water. And dry completely after cleaning with water only. Otherwise, you will degrade your seasoning, which allows food to stick. These are general cast iron care guidelines for any cast iron cookware that is not enameled.Once seasoned properly, this skillet works like a charm. Cooks food evenly and is truly nonstick. I am growing increasingly fond of WANGYUANJI with each new piece that I add to my collection.OVERALLThere are much more expensive options out there for cast iron skillets, as well as cheaper. This is a case of you get more than what you pay for. I think $80 is a fair price considering the quality and style. I highly recommend both this skillet and the brand as a whole. You can't go wrong. Additionally, it makes for a wonderful gift for the chef in your life. The nice luxe box, presentation (black cloth-like sleeve), and extra accessories (spatula and scrub brush) make it highly giftable. As a serious home chef, I would have be over-the-moon to have received it as a gift.I sincerely hope this review helps. Happy Cooking!
