One of my favorite kitchen gadgets!
I bought this slicer over 3 years ago and it has never left my counter top. My family loves cheese! This baby cuts to whatever thickness you want. It is strong and very sharp! Easy to use and clean. I never expected this to last this long and it works as well as it did on day one. Well worth the price!

Now I can get thin slices
I got this because my little hand-held wire-style cheese slicer was giving me slices that were way too thick and it couldn't be adjusted. I wanted thinner cheese slices and I wanted adjustability. This looked easy and intuitive to use, so I got it. With a little practice, I got the slices exactly as I wanted them.This is made of plastic and it's a little loose and rattly to use. The gauge isn't as precise as I thought it would be. The dial is a bit hard to read with the lines so close to each other. I seem to be working in a very small area of measurement. It makes me wonder why the gauge goes out so far. Does anyone really set it so far out?And I am not sure how long the knife will stay this sharp. It comes with no instructions, for example for cleaning or storage. I've got it stored on its side next to all my cutting boards. I think the best thing to do is to set the gauge for the thin cheese slices that I want and keep it there. It should also work for the way I like cucumber slices: thin and soaking in a bit of white vinegar and sugar.

Fantastic Cheese Slicer!!
I am so impressed with this cheese slicer!! I have been looking for one that could handle a large block of cheese and looked through so many reviews and videos until finding this one that others had given great reviews for also. I wanted one that actually had a blade like a knife, and not one of those wires that stretch out and aren't precise. I also liked the fact that it is made in Germany. So I figured it was worth giving it a try and I was NOT disappointed!! I sliced an entire large block of cheese for sandwiches and it worked perfect every single slice! You can get a very very thin slice or a much thicker slice with an easy turn of the dial. And cleanup is very easy - just be careful when washing the blade because it is very sharp. Well worth it's price!!

Probably would look for something different next time
Purchased in 2016 and here are my thoughts after owning for 8 years. It’s one of those novelty items that is not used frequently as it is simply easier and faster to grab a knife for a couple of cheese slices. However, it is nice if you’re making sandwiches for the whole family as you can adjust the thickness of the slices. Also, when kids are cutting cheese for a sandwich I would definitely prefer them using this tool than a knife.Cons: When cleaning, it is difficult to get all the cheese out from between the metal blade and the plastic bar the blade is attached to. Some cheese is always jammed in the groove and it’s tedious to get it completely clean. One feature that would make cleaning easier and more thorough would be if the blade could be detached to get in there with soap and water. Which leads me to my next point - the blade. This blade is not serviceable so it cannot be removed for sharpening or cleaning. Again, I understand we have had this for 8 years but we really don’t use it that often and the blade is severely damaged. It now looks like we have been cutting wire with it and the only things this blade has ever touched is cheese. Picture speaks for itself.

Great little cheese guillotine!
I have had this cheese slicer for a year and a half, and use it quite a bit. My husband smokes cheese regularly, so we need to slice up the blocks for serving. We also tried a wire slicer, which accidentally got left at a relatives's house, and we don't want it back. This is much quicker, easier, and works better! You can "dial in" the thickness you want. There is a limit to the size of block you can cut. We cut about 2" off of the big blocks, then slice them to make "cracker-sized" slices. This works perfectly for those. You do need to remove the slices after you have cut several to keep them out of the way of your new ones, or keep moving the slicer back to make room. It isn't really a big deal for us. And you definitely need to pay attention when using, cleaning, or storing it. Fingers and fingernails are no match for this blade!
