Does not work on KitchenAid mixer KSM5 the part 3 is correct but tolerances must be off. I replace unit and it worked for all of about 6 seconds, the spun free turning nothing. I then took mixer apart and the gear assembly has way too much vertical slop. (Gears do not engage properly). I purchased because the old gear assembly slipped, at least it worked. I am better off with old assembly till another gear unit OEM arrives.
Appears to be better quality than the original part. Time will tell
I utilized this worm gear assembly to repair an older 5qt KitchenAid Artisan with the spring on the mixer shaft. The original assembly had some shredded splines on the gear, and this replacement part was a perfect fit. If your mixer is making a grinding noise and the shaft appears to be skipping, then this part will likely fix your problem. This replacement assembly features a sturdy construction with very little play in the gear. Replacing this gear does require substantial disassembly of the stand mixer, so do your research if you’re planning to do a DIY repair. Correct lubrication with NSF H1, NLGI 2 grease is essential for achieving reliable functionality after repair. This replacement gear assembly is a great value but do your research before attempting a repair.
This assembly replaces the sacrificial plastic gear that commonly wears or shears in KitchenAid mixers—a known failure point by design to protect the motor. While the gear can be purchased on its own, replacing the complete assembly with the axle already pressed in is significantly easier and reduces the chance of installation issues. This unit matches the original specifications, fit correctly in my mixer, and restored normal operation without any problems. Be sure to use an adequate amount of food‑grade grease during installation, as proper lubrication is critical for longevity and smooth operation.
