Great replacement for Cutco

Great quality knife. I recently accidentally threw my 30+ year old Cutco in the trash. I went to their site and found them to be $94.I really didn't want to spend that much on it as I mainly use it for cake cutting and serving. Bought this one and it is super sharp and sturdy.I had read other reviews about it being flimsy but mine is not so not sure where those came from unless the expectation is that it would be more like a steak or butcher knife.Highly recommended.

Damn Good Sandwich Knife

We have a Spatula Spreader knife - by Cutco. I enjoy it and I wanted another one. Cutco sells ‘em for about $87 each. Other knife makers have similar knives at similar prices. This Wüstoff appeared very similar - $25!I had to try it out - glad I did! This is a full tang, 5” spatula-spreader blade, serrated on one edge, and flexible for cutting, scooping, spreading and doing all sandwich making chores. I tried it out on a bagel within 1-Hr of receiving it. No Complaints whatsoever! I may buy another and still spend less than another At full price! The only drawback, for me only, is the handle is a little small in my hand. My big hands like more control. But normal-hands folks will never notice is my guess. And I’m still delighted with it!

This is a bread knife with a large spreader's head

This Wusthof "spreader" combines a serrated bread knife with a spreader head. The knife edge side has serrated pointed teeth like a bread or tomato knife which makes it easier for me when I cut sandwiches, slice bagels, slice crusty rolls, and even slice tomatoes. The knife/spreader is just under 9 ½" long (from the tip of the blade to the end of the handle). The blade is both longer (just under 4 ¾") and the head of the knife is wider (just under 1 ¾" at its widest) than the spreader knife I use. There is just under 3 ¼" of serrations from the lower tip of the front of the knife going back to the handle. And the remaining edge is a straight knife blade that is a little over 1 ¾" long. Because this knife has no pointed tip, it takes just a bit of patience to carefully make that first opening in a bagel or roll before I can really begin slicing. Because this knife has sharp edges, use care if you have young kids helping to make sandwiches.I prefer to put on spread using the non-serrated side of the knife but I'll have to keep the serrated side of the knife in mind when I put icing on things like cupcakes to put on fancy swirls. This Wusthof's Gourmet knife has what I'll call a full half tang. Huh? I can see a full tang on top of the handle while the bottom of the handle has no exposed tang. I'm guessing this gives the knife strength and me control when cutting. I like the fit between the tang and the handle: there is no gap just like any better quality knife. The instruction on the back of the blister package says they recommend hand washing the knife. Heck, it even recommends storing this knife in a knife block or basically treating the knife like it's a cutlery knife. So I wash this knife by hand and I use a knife guard to store this knife in my knife drawer.PROS:Combines a tomato/bread knife with a spreader so you can use one knife for making sandwiches or preparing your morning bagels.A larger head means less scooping from a jar and fewer strokes to put on spread. The longer blade means you can reach the bottom of most jars.CONSThe wider head may make it difficult to get into some jar necks when compared with other spreaders.

Best buy

Great buy for the money! Wusthof is a top knife maker. The serrated blade is sharp and cuts veggies well. Works as a roll slicer very well. The five inch blade is just the right size for a spreading knife. It reaches to the bottom of a mayonnaise jar. This is a versatile kitchen tool. Blade is high carbon stainless steel with resin handle. As with all good knives hand wash a dry.

Nice, but not quite what I wanted

Nice knife, but it is shorter than I expected.  The serrated edge is too sharp of a sandwich knife for me.  The handle is very well balanced.  I wouldn't mind that it is a fatter handle and more round for that would be more ergonomically comfortable.

I LOVE it!

Is it pricey?? For a sandwich spreader, probably so. BUT it feels good in my hand. The serration is sharp will cut through everything I have used it for. The blade is long enough to reach the bottom of a mason jar, mayo, peanut butter etc, my other spreaders are too short and half my hand ends up in the mouth of the jar and a mess ensues. It fits perfectly in my "in the drawer" knife block. I was hesitant after reading reviews, saw people saying it broke because it wasn't full tang, or that is discolored/rusted. I have had it for a couple weeks, use it most days, like all of my knives, I hand wash it, dry it and but back in the block. It is sturdy, appears to be quality stainless, for me, yes it was worth every penny and would recommend it to anyone that wants a great sandwich spreader. I considered a couple of the colored handled ones that were $8-$10 less, but had a lot more negative reviews about quality. I have other Wusthof knives that are 10+ years old so that swayed my decision.
