Purchased this as a gift for a friend who bakes daily, she said it was beautiful.
Serving warm bread in this rattan basket at the table is joy and pleasure. The intricate weave pattern in this handcrafted basket looks amazing! The earthy terra-cotta plate gives off such a rustic charm and warmth. However, the white outlines on the birds and trees on my plate do not look vivid at all, unlike that in the listing photo. Mine look rather faded under the glaze.I received my bread basket yesterday. While I should have washed the cover and liner before use, I couldn't wait. We totally enjoyed this practical warmer at dinner. To conserve energy, I warmed the terra-cotta plate for about 20 minutes in our toaster oven at 350 degrees F without preheating. Our sourdough bread slices remained warm throughout dinner, thanks to the included linen cover. After dinner, the terra-cotta plate still felt quite warm to the touch. I'm very pleased that it has worked so well. Quite sure it will be enjoyed by all other family members at Thanksgiving! This certainly would make a nice gift for anyone who enjoys meals with warm dinner rolls or any kind of bread. I was very surprised that it didn't come with any instructions on use and care. We know by common sense that the basket is not dishwasher safe but what about the terra-cotta plate? If instructions have been included, end users (including the lucky ones who get this as a gift) won't need to return to the listing for the needed information.
Love it
I didn’t know just how much I would absolutely love this bread warmer, but it is my new favorite holiday piece. Speaking purely aesthetically, it’s stunning. Very cottage core. The hyacinth basket is beautiful and sturdy, the linen lining is of high-quality. The cover is a nice added touch, plus functional to keep the bread warmer. The size is large enough for a medium sized sourdough loaf. Probably not enough for a whole loaf of sandwich, bread, but enough for about a dozen dinner rolls. The stone itself was an interesting concept to me. Functionally it seemed like it would work, but I had never thought of it before. So when the holidays rolled around, I heated the stone in my toaster oven along with my rolls. The stone came out first, the rolls went into the basket on top of the stone, and they stayed warm for well over an hour. I was able to put them on the table and get everything else dressed and on the table, and by the time I sat down, my bun was still very warm, the butter melting inside almost instantly. Usually, as the one doing the cooking, by the time I sit down and eat, most of the food is cold. I was grateful for my warm bun. The basket itself is beautiful and was complimented by everyone at the table. I didn’t know I needed one, but I’m very glad I have one now.
I am so impressed with this set, the terracotta insert could be hung on the wall it's so pretty. And weighty, and the glazing is lovely. (I adore birds too so there's that lol.)The basket is sturdy, very well made, substantial, and though this isn't a feature the seller played up I really like the cotton cap. No more covering my hot bread with tea towels. Of course I love the liner too, it keeps the basket clean, my only suggestion for change though is that the hem for the elastic around the rim be flipped, so the raw edge is underneath. The bamboo tongs are an appreciated addition, they are simple but quality, they complete the set perfectly. As for heating the stone up, I was confused at first by the photo of the stone being heated in what looks to be a microwave; however, the seller description says to put it in an oven for 10 min on 350. That's what I've done in the past with older stones so I was happy to read that and confirm it is to be oven-heated, esp since we don't own a microwave lol (yes on purpose ;). The seller doesn't mention using a microwave that I saw, but a quick google search indicates that terra cotta warming stones can be heated in a microwave with some caveats, they can be destroyed in one too. (If we're baking our oven is already hot so it just makes sense to heat the stone in there. ;)I make homemade rolls for Christmas every year, they are always a hit but they are a lot of work, so I am thrilled to have a beautiful warming basket to put them in now, my hard work on display, beautifully showcased for at least a few minutes before they are all eaten lol.And when they are all gone I'll be looking at these lovely birds, I really do love this set. It would make a great housewarming gift too, or Christmas or birthday or anytime gift for your favorite baker, maybe filled with great ingredients and a favorite bread or muffin recipe ;).
This really is a great bread basket. It makes having a nice function look nicer because you have a nice basket for the bread. I like that it’s lined. It is a nice size to hold different breads, and I think it is a good value for the money.
