we've had a wonderful experience with this machine. It’s very straightforward to use and the cleanup is hassle-free. The juice quality is fantastic!
There are several different types of juicers out there but this style is the most effective is my opinion.I think this juicer does a great job with certain kinds of fruit the best. Apples, oranges, melon, etc. Tons of liquid, minimal pulp, delicious. What I was disappointed by is the limitation on greens. The juicer did not like juicing kale or spinach, and it did not yield much liquid at all compared to a couple of other brands. If you mainly only juice fruit as it is, this is a great buy!
I am incredibly impressed with this juicer.I don’t normally buy single-item gadgets but I have an orchard that is finally beginning to produce and this was a good apple year. When the item came up on Vine, I ordered it. Last Saturday I had piles of apples that were slightly flawed - bird pecks, buggy on one side, or bruised - and I pulled out this juicer to see what it could do. Within a few hours - most of that time being my washing and cutting apples - I had several gallons of gorgeous apple cider. The juicer is incredibly easy to put together, super sturdy, and safe. It would not turn on if the lid wasn’t down, and the hole on the top is narrow enough not to admit any human appendages. I didn’t bother to peel my apples, and I found that the juicer actually juiced the apples faster than I could cut them. There’s a warning on the juicer that it should not be run for more than 45 minutes or something, but the machine juiced the apples so fast that I don’t think I had it on for more than ten minutes at a time, even when I had accumulated a big bowl of cut apples and had filled the top of the juicer and was feeding the apple pieces in as soon as there was room. The machine is powerful and while it did make some bad squealing noises now and then, it powered through the apples (see video). You can roll the dial in the opposite direction from ‘on’ to reverse the blade if anything gets caught, but I didn’t have that issue. While I was making cider, I was on a group chat with my brother and stepsister, and while I had never had any experience making cider, they both texted at length about how they had done this before and how complicated the process was. My stepsister in particular said she never pulls out her juicer because it’s such a hassle to clean. This Zulay juicer is super easy to clean and it also comes with two two-sided brushes to get into the littler spaces if something is caught. By the end of the day, my step-sister put her old juicer in her Give-Away pile and I believe she ordered one of these. My brother had mentioned that the press he’d used had involved screws and he’d been helping the orchard owner. The Zulay press is not large enough for any commercial application, but for the home kitchen, it’s super easy. It’s designed to be an every-day use item for busy health-conscious people, so it necessarily had to be easy and quick to use, and easy and quick to clean up. I have since pulled the juicer out again, for another batch of wind-fall apples, and easily made another quart of cider which was bagged and thrown in the freezer for hot cider when the kids come to visit.Because I hate wasting food, I did try to find recipes to use the apple pulp produced by the machine. However, the juicer is so efficient that my apple pulp was too dry for the recipes. I figure this is a good thing, and now the chickens are getting the apple pulp.I am VERY VERY VERY impressed with this machine.
Top quality juicers run upwards of 5-6x what this one costs. Are they worth it? That depends on what you want out of your juicer.I've been using this one for about 3 weeks and have run all kinds of fruits and vegetables through it. It handles some thing very well. Pineapples and citrus fruits yield tons of juice, and my favorite use for it is a pineapple/orange juice blend. It also does a great job with apples, and works very well on ginger, which is important.Other things give it a harder time. It will juice beets, but only with great protestations. The machine gets so loud I fully expect it to self-destruct one day soon when I am making a double batch of beet-apple-cucumber-ginger juice (another house favorite). See the video for a brief demonstration.I had hoped to use it to juice kale, spinach, parsley and other leafy greens. At these, it fails miserably. No amount of tweaking and twiddling have been able to get the auger to grab the leaves and mash them, and it produces only a thimble of juice from the leaves it does handle. Mostly, they end up wrapped around the base of the auger, making for a messy and challenging clean up.Speaking of cleanup, it's a chore. There are six or seven individual pieces to disassemble and wash, and the little chute for the pulp extracts is always clogged and difficult to clean. It also requires handwashing, so you get to have your countertop filled with drying parts for a few hours after you use it.Storage is also a hassle. The design of the product is such that there is no way to nest all the pieces together and easily store them. I have half of a large pull-out drawer dedicated to this, with the base, the bowl, the auger, the strainer, and the 2 cups all stored next to each other. All in all, it works for some things but not for others. If you just want to make a lot of apple, cucumber, pineapple, orange or lime juice, this is a great value. If you dream of daily beet ginger shots, it might not last that long based on the noises it makes. And if you want kale in your juice diet, keep looking. For the money, it's not bad. But you might be better off spending more to get something that will last longer, run quieter, and be easier to clean and store.
